Beaches on western France -cold and windy?

I really fancy some of the west coast beaches of France, but I'm worried that even in high summer they might be too cold and windy for my little ones -5 and 3. Ok, I admit it, I'm worried that they might be too cold for me! I prefer temperatures to be Mediterranean and warmer.
How have any other fellow wimps found these beaches (Ile de Re, Oberon, Royan...)?
The Mediterranean coast appeals for warmth but it's our first peak season holiday and I'm worried it'll be even more crowded down there. What do you reckon?

My Mum took us to St Gille Croix De Vie/La Rochelle when we were young and it was mega hot. My DB got seriously bad sunburn and heat stroke!

However, I am not sure how far this is from your destinations, though is on west coast.

They can be windy, but the waether tends to be quite warm as the vendee has a micro climate.

We have been going there since my two were 6 and 3 and have had some excellent holidays there

Puy de Fou is farking *ace! Expensive, so plan the day and get the most out of it. We didn't go to the night time thingie, as the kids were too small. If you want to go to that you need to book about now! The tickers go V fast.

It isn't like Disney, there are no rides just shows. I shit you not they have a full size roman amphetheater where they do the full on gladeator show, with charriot races, lions and tigers, christians tied up, the works! All in French, but even with a very rusty O level I could translate. Superb Knights in shining armour show, Vikings. It is bloody ace! You can't picnic, but the food is good and not too over priced

Nvere done Futuroscope

no, that is a bit far south.

woth going to Noirmoutier across tha cause way.

Apremeont is a nice town, with a castle, good places to picnic, and you can hire boats and pedalos.

Good beaches, Jard Sur mer....toen in jard is nice.

St Gilles Criox de vie has a huge market, loads of good places to eat. Brem sur mer is good.

It is v nice to go and picnic in the woods that back on to the beaches.

Chalans does a 1900 day (4 days in August), when all the town dresses up, they have vintage bike races, the firemen bring out the atique fire emgines, great fun and free!
