portaventura - anyone?

We are planning to go abroad in april and are considering one of the hotels near portaventura as we have some very active children that would get bored of beaches. Has anyone been to the hotels - hotel caribe or el paso or to the theme park itself, is it any good? Any advice much appreciated!

I have been to portaventura last April, what do you want to know?

BTW the water park wasn't open when I was there, not open out of season, we didn't stay in the on site hotel.

Have been to Port Aventura a few times now and am going back in May.

Have stayed in El Paso twice. It is about a 5 min walk to theme park and entrance is included if staying at the hotel. The train station (a couple of mins from hotel) takes you to Tarragona and Barcelona.

The weather could be a bit unpedicatable at that time of year and the resort may seem quite empty as I think the season really starts from May.

We stayed at El Paso three years ago and I would love to go back. Really nice rooms, very spacious and well appointed. The kids entertainment was fantastic, especially in the evenings. The kids club was very professional and we used it for two hours over lunch time most days to keep the children out of the sun.

The food was plentiful and varied although there was an element of holiday-camp eating in sessions. I didn't mind, I just love not cooking! The pools were clean and huge and there were loads of loungers and parasols. Lots and lots of Spanish and French on holiday which was a lot of fun - they really get into pool games.

The parc is 5 mins walk up the road and is just fab. There is a little land train for the tired or lazy. We rented gert big plastic buggies for the smaller kids and pushed them around - they were a great idea and everyone uses them. The water parc was really, really, really good fun - well worth a visit.

In the evening, after the entertainment (outside ampitheatre at the hotel) they screened movies on a huge screen by the swimming pool and we all lounged ayound on the pool loungers watching The Mummy. You may have noticed that I really rate it. Not cheap but really, really great holiday.

Hi. im going in May, booked with thomson, got cheap deal, 2 weeks half board in Salou, 4star hotel 800 for 2 adults and 2 kids. Not been before, looking forward to it

winterpimms · 16/02/2007 16:25

That was a good deal Melanie!

Melaniec234 · 16/02/2007 17:06

winterpimms is portaventura okay for younger kids. this is our first time. thought it would be good for us as ds is autistic and likes to be kept busy

winterpimms · 16/02/2007 17:22

Melanie - our first visit to Port Aventura was when the children were 2 and 6. They are now 10 and 14!

I think there will be enough to keep them happy and amused.

Hope you all have a lovely holiday

Have booked el paso now so fingers crossed. We thought the area had so much to do that it was bound to keep our dd1 out of trouble. We took her to butlins last year and despite our reservations she loved the noise and red coats etc, even our baby loved the shows and happy kids = happy us! We are hoping it will be the same but with some warm weather, good food and sand!

We are going in april, how warm does it get, is it spring type weather or more like summer here?

Hi aznerak
Just a few questions about the villa! Are all these parks and activities open in October (2nd week). What's the average temp for that time of year..do you know?
Thank you!

aznerak · 18/02/2007 08:45

Hi winniewoo
Most things are open all year round - including horseriding, tennis, watersports, the african game reserve and the dinosaur park. The large aquapark does however close in September.
The weather can be really lovely in October, especially early October. You can expect the temperature to be in the early 20s and swimming until mid October is very usual.
The beaches are calm, restaurants still open - still a great time to go to the Languedoc!
