Nice Christmasy towns within 2hr train journey from London?

Thinking of taking the kids, 4 & 5, on a 2-3 day trip outside London in the week before Christmas. Are there any nice towns that do festive/Christmas with real style - markets, etc, that we could reach by train, max 2 hours away?

UK only, pls, as our passports are in the process of being renewed, so we can't go abroad.

Thanks!

Bath Xmas market gets absolutely mobbed it's higher quality than many markets but is totally rammed. Xmas shopping in bath generally is nice though and a good choice for a day out.
Birmingham Xmas market is tatty and down market, it's all the usual Xmas market rubbish.

German Market in Birmingham

It will be horrendous the week before Christmas.

It was bad enough this weekend Shock

DP and I went to Lincoln Christmas market last year. Neither of us had been to Lincoln before and were really pleasantly surprised - it was really lovely. I can recommend it. I think it's only on over one weekend as it's fairly big and takes up a lot of the town.

Birmingham has its famed German street market on at the moment. A couple of minutes walk from Birmingham New Street station. Worth a visit - big, outdoors, Christmassy, outdoor skating rink, great atmosphere. 🎄
