What are London/SE mumsnetters doing with their children this half term - it's one day in, I have a cold and am ready to kill!

Ds is five and dd is two. Have booked to take ds to see Flat Stanley at the Polka Theatre in Wimbledon, we are going to a bookshop and toyshop today to spend dd's birthday money....we may do a daytrip to France on Friday (ds's idea!)...any other ideas? Please! Feel sure there is lots of exciting stuff out there that I can drive to and isn't too frighteningly expensive.

If you go on Saturday you'll see DD1 and aforementioned best mate (I'm taking DD2 to the Unicorn). Look for the small curly one who sounds like a herd of elephants.

Anchovy · 12/02/2007 16:36

How funny, we may well go on Saturday as that would mean DH and I could go as well.

I think we will be pretty recognisable - someone will probably be walking in front of us ringing a handbell and shouting "unclean".

spudmasher · 12/02/2007 16:36

Just got back from Discover. Be warned the garden is a mud bath....

Earlybird · 12/02/2007 16:39

Must say I really wish the Children's Literature Festival at Southbank was this week instead of next. There are some good sounding half term 'boredom busters' on the agenda.

motherinferior · 12/02/2007 16:44

Hey, my lot are....scrubbing the floor.

Admittedly they got paint on it earlier, but they were disconcertingly keen on cleaning it. (It's wood, rather badly stripped, not exactly precious stuff.)

Twiglett · 12/02/2007 16:58

this clay thing at the unicorn for 3 plus looks fabulous

here

foxinsocks · 12/02/2007 17:03

we will prob go to the Look out Discovery centre in Bracknell at some point (hopefully on a good weather day) - we've not been there before.

may do Tate Britain

dd missed going to Flat Stanley (because she was ill) so we might reschedule this or alternatively, do Charlotte's Web.

Will prob do the V&A museum - think they have special activities for Chinese New Year and their kids stuff in half term is normally very good.

Kaz33 · 12/02/2007 17:10

Polka theatre, but they are doing Flat stanley just for schools this week so seeing something else.

Running around outside - lots

Alice Holt woodland park for ranger led activities

Eating pizza and watching DVD's

Oh as for half term - I've just stocked up on art supplies so that ds1 can make anything from the art attack mag this month. I've also stocked up on a few things for some sciency experiments. We might risk the NH museum.

Anchovy · 12/02/2007 17:22

Kaz33 - I phoned the Polka and they said that if they are doing a performance for schools, schools get a priority booking and they only decide to run a performance if they have enough schools attending. however, once they have scheduled one others can go along as well.

Earlybird · 12/02/2007 17:27

Ladymuck - details please of Artattack magazine?

Ladymuck · 12/02/2007 17:32

Err, just says CITV Art Attack on it. The edition I'm looking at is 31 Jan and they have a website . We just got it at the newsagents. Has about 10 different things to make or activities in it and I can usually reckon on 1.5 hours of peace when paper machie is involved.

Earlybird · 12/02/2007 17:35

Thanks - will look out for it. The grim weather forecast for this week might have all of us indoors more than we'd like, so good to have ideas as an alternate to too much telly.

Ladymuck · 12/02/2007 17:36

I've just looked at the website - tons of ideas. In fact I think that we're going to try the dino nest from here

drifter · 12/02/2007 17:43

Have spent pretty much all of the day indoors. Very depressing but I just couldn't be bothered...

Issymum · 12/02/2007 18:12

Thank you Ladymuck. So far, so smooth. Creative play, tea, pyjamas, teeth-brushing and no tears whilst I've fielded emails and conference calls. Another skin-of-the-teeth effort from Issymum!

Paddlechick666 · 12/02/2007 21:04

lol @ wally-bum-bum!

you lot are making me think that a possible move back to my Rotherhithe flat might not be the kid wasteland i previously thought!

Marina · 12/02/2007 21:06

Lookout is lovely FIS but definitely a good-weather destination IME

foxinsocks · 13/02/2007 10:06

Thanks marina, I'll bear that in mind. Hopefully our half term week won't be so wet! Having said that, it's a lovely day today so I hope this is one of 'your' days!

Marina · 13/02/2007 20:36

I have just spent a top afternoon with Tigermoth watching dd do her "dancing" while my ds and her ds were in a bunker under the dining room table repelling radioactive aliens, apparently. Good fun all round

foxinsocks · 13/02/2007 20:39

aaah marina - they are often the best days aren't they! Means you're not too knackered but everyone's had a good time.

Kelly1978 · 13/02/2007 20:42

Paddlechick has already suggested it, but we went to Bockett's farm today and the kids had a great time. There is tons of play equipment there and an indoor soft play area in addition to all the animals. It was lovely.

hazel1975 · 14/02/2007 18:23

Just wanted to check if Foxinsocks made it to the Lookout in Bracknell?
Was considering it for tomorrow....

Thanks!
Hazel

Marina · 15/02/2007 11:44

Hazel, I think FIS' half-term is next week so she's going then. We went quite a few years ago when visiting friends in the area (ds was 2) and had a smashing time. Trouble removing him at the end...
