its totally different in france I can promise you, some of teh poshest sites are just fab. Great pools, jacuzzis and saunas for the grownups decent restuarants too. La Garengoire is really lovely. if you like horse riding it is great too. It is inland. but there is a lake for water sports and it is about 15 mmins drive to teh coast

Gobbledigook · 11/02/2007 19:46

eek the video showing 6 million people in the pool has put me right off!

I found that Matthews holidays are a lot cheaper than eurocamp/keycamp, use the same sites and offer the same facilities. Worth a look to compare prices if you want to save.

KTeePee · 12/02/2007 07:48

Don't know how many kids you have Beety but the problem with Matthews is that they don't do 3-bed mobile homes, only 2-bed and a pull out thing in the living area (which is not my idea of a fun way to spend my holiday!)

I booked my holiday through this company:

here

which books directly with the campsites for you - so much cheaper thyan Keycamp, etc.

They can book you with a company called O'Hara - which in spite of the name is French - though possibly the campsites will also be used by Keycamp, Eurocamp, etc as well. I am going to use Tesco vouchers to pay for most of the Eurotunnel crossings so it is working out quite cheap for us....

Beetrootccio · 12/02/2007 09:57

i have four kids so would need a bigger place - we do have our won tent so we coudl just go somewhere less organsied - but think kids MAY just like to DO some stuff

Our criteria were - quiet and preferably no "entertainment" in the evening - swimming pool with slides (dd's request).

Beetrootccio · 13/02/2007 08:54

yes that sounds good kteepee - although 'own pool' would be good

i'm quite dismayed to find you think it has such a poor reputation.

i have never had anything but good experiences. the only butlins experience i had was a Haven site and that was cheesy disco music and a fella in a tiger suit.

lilibet · 13/02/2007 10:31

We love France, usually Keycamp but this year are with Eurocamp, same company but Eurocamp worked out cheaper for the same dates.

We are very very antisocial on holiday - we dont like other people!

French campsites are ideal, the kids can have loads of freedom, they can make freinds and we can relax with wine and each other!

I would echo advice to stay away from the Vendee, we usually go to Southern Brittany as coming from the north we have enough driving to do to actually get out of the country.

The Loire is also gorgeous and there are some lovely sites there.

Beetrootccio · 13/02/2007 22:05

sounds a bitlike us Lil.

Although we usually go somewhre that we can all be together - so the become a family again. I guess as they get older they will want more than this but I do enjoy this precious time

Le Paradis in St Leon sur Vezere is fab, one of the best in France, and not "chavvy"!!!! Canoeing, beautiful pools, pony riding, good restaurant on site. eurocamp go there, but you can book direct or take your own. I can't recommend this place enough - its run by a Dutch couple and is super efficient. The landscaping is amazing, tropical plants everywhere, fab play area, and lovely locality (near the dordogne) - check it out......

Brittany britany brittany!!! We go with french Life who are a good quality company - nice vans, nice reps etc and good sites. Also you can use your tesco vouchers with them!
The best site we stayed in was Mane Guernehue in Baden - fabulous pool (best we've been to with separate adult only pool!), very international, great takeawayrestaurant - with Little Tykes play equipment at one side, very quiet with 3 fishing lakes, short walk to village, small farm area (goats and donkeys in adjacen fields! It's close to some lovely towns and is in the Golf of Morbihan so lovely scenery, beaches (10 mins away) and sailing trips. Loved it. Only drawback is that some pitches are at the bottom of a hill. Hmmmm...

We stayed at Le Guilvenic too which is great location wise as it's right on a sandy beach but the site was OK, we weren't impressedwith it although we had a fantastic holiday - other people on here have raved about it. last year we went back to the VEndee - ST Jean de MOnts but it's quite British.
This year back to Brittany, what looks like a gorgeous quiet site in Raguenes (not far from Quimper) - camping les 2 fontaines. Brochure pictures aren't good but you can google the campsite which looks great. Within walking distance of a beach and a national park type place.

Good luk! France is fab!
