Taxis in Rome - advice re. car seats etc.

We are going to Rome in April with DD1 (4) and DD2 (3). We won't be lugging their car seats out there and we aren't hiring a car but we will need to take a taxi from the airport to our hotel (about 30 minutes by car I think) and back again at the end of the 4 day trip.

My question is ... I am wondering whether to just strap the girls in the adult seats in the taxi for these trips, or whether it would make it any safer for them if I bought a 'Shoulder Belt Adjuster' (like this: \link{http://www.gltc.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=G1329&categoryid=Roomcar&language=en-GB}) each?

Does anyone have a clue?!

TIA!

hmm not ideal I'd say and it does assume there will be suitable seat belts. What about taking the train, the stations are pretty central .

Bear in mind that drivers in Rome, and particularly taxi drivers in Rome, are madder than Mad Jack McMad - they are literally all over the road. Both times we took a taxi we were involved in accidents, and they really don't give a monkey's.

Plus when we went (although it's 11 years ago now, I don't know if the laws have changed) most of the taxis didn't have seatbelts in the back at all.

Yup - this is the kind of stuff that concerns me.

hi,

what did you decide, i am going through the very same dilemma.
we travel to rome in april too.
a booster seat is fine that can fit in cases but the big heavy toddler seat is too much.
we wanted to try the train on the way but certainly need a taxi coming back to get to the flight on time.
seems silly just for that journey

I live in Northern Italy and generally have noted that Italians are pretty blasé about their kids in cars. Often see them rolling about onthe back seat, and have never noticed a taxi with a child seat in it, so I would take a booster seat or maybe take the train in and see if hotel can order you a taxi with a child seat for journey back.

thanks, where are you in the north, the reason we are off to rome is because we are moving there in the summer.

I live near Bergamo which is a lovely (very) small city east of Milan. Where are you moving to? There's another thread I saw (but haven't written on) called living in northern italy in the living overseas bit of the other stuff topic, sorry am hopeless with links! Are you moving here for work or a life change (or both!)?

sorry i never replied.

i couldnt remember where i posted. i am sure i am alerted when i get a message, not used this forum for ages.
yes, life change and work. Steve has a job in Rome. My youngest is still abit young so in about a year i will work, doing a TEFL course next month.
i am so excited.

i have heard of Bergamo, because we did look at moving around milan at one point, but this seemed to eb the jos that lured Steve to Rome.
