Hi

My cousin is marrying a lovely Dub in June. So we're off to Dublin with toddler and one year old baby probably for a week.

Has anyone stayed somewhere very child friendly in Dublin. Ie somewhere that probably has toys/ facilities for play on site and a generally very child friendly attitude. TBH price not really an issue but nothing like 5 star (probably would nt have us anyway!).

We do have friends in Dublin so planning a week but dont want to stay with them. The wedding is in Rathmines and the reception in Leixlip.

I would say that staying with a baby in a hotel for a week would not be easy - don't know of any child friendly ones in Dublin - how about renting a self-catering appartment?

we',ve always used the herbert park hotel when we go to dublin with kids its quiet and is situated right beside a beautiful park with great playgrounds and a duck pond. while they dont have toys etc the staff are wonderful with kids and we usually get connecting rooms with the kids room half price. we have also used their babysitters at night and found them good if expensive.

The Westin on College Green is a very central hotel right in the heart of Dublin city. It runs a very good kids club..

try selfcatering.ie mumfun
you might get something neater leixlip that would be easier for you to get to the city and wicklow having the best of both worlds.
means you have to go food shopping thou and cook it!

OOh, nostalgia time - I grew up in Rathmines!!! Don't rent somewhere outside Dublin whatever you do, traffic is appalling these days and you really don't want to spend hours getting into town. No offence intended to hermykne but I would consider leixlip and wicklow much too far from Dublin to consider (though with the mad property boom in Dublin recently they are now apparantly considered by estate agents as practially suburbs!!!). Dublin is generally child friendly but it tends to be more of a "baby comes too" attitude rather than thinking of separate facilities for kids. I don't know of anywhere to stay off the top of my head but I'll ask my sister who lives in Clonskeagh which isn't far from Rathmines. I'm not at home at the moment but I'll get back to you on this next week if you like. Herbert Park is a really nice area.

mumfun, its on the northside, getting into town and over to rathmines would take an hour realistically, allowing for traffic and you guys being strangers! to go to leixlip is anohthr 40mins from rathmines. coming back to roganstown you would use the M50, a circular road round the outskirts of the city with a toll.
if you are driving over you'd be better going to north wall than dun laoghaire port.

hth

Hi, the hotel you mentioned is miles from where the wedding will be, and as another poster said, traffic will be dreadful to get across town. Also the hotel, while nice, is in the middle of the countryside. Nothing around it.

Dublin hotels while they might be friendly to families with kids in general, do not normally provide many child- friendly amenities apart from the usuals such as a high chair. An exception might be the very expensive hotels 4 and 5 star hotels which provide kids clubs sometimes (but usually during peak season).

I would advise getting an apartment or an aparthotel. One place which fits the bill are the Premier Suites Stephens Hall apartments. Some of these are located right off St Stephens Green on Lower Leeson Street which is in the centre of town. You get self-catering apartments but with many of the facilities of a hotel, and in a fantastic location, close to everything.

Another option which is nice is Bewleys Ballsbridge hotel. This is located in a beautiful period building in Ballsbridge in a fashionable area of town (and close enough to Rathmines). all rooms are E99, even family rooms (where he kids sleep on a bed- sofa). This is a very good deal for Dublin believe me. Breakfast is extra but there is a fine restaurant on site. It is located close to good transport e, cafes, bars etc.

Another option , but in a more businesslike area is the Clarion Hotel in the IFSC area. I include this one because it is one of the few hotel to have a pool, might be nice to have to option to bring your DS for a swim now and again.
All the best,

Marykate

Thank you so much. I have just booked the Bewleys Ballsbridge. We had to change our dates a little to get in but I am so pleased with your recommendation. Thank you so much - looks great.

hi

Just wanted to say quickly that the Bewleys Ballsbridge was great! Just come back. Very friendly - really stunning place archictecturally. Kind staff. Good food. Room was fine. Cot nice new one.

Thought breakfast would be very expensive -is 11 euros each adult but then they only charge 70 cents per year of each childs age so was good deal for us.

DD was very sick when there - they got a doctor pronto and all was well. Staff asked after how she was - they were kind!

WOuld go back in a shot.
