I need to book a family meal in London next weekend for sis's 40th. We're stopping nr London Eye, so Covent Garden area would be good. Am taking my mum (!) so needs to serve a selection of food which doesn't contain garlic -HELP. Currently looking at Porters English Restaurant, but worried it's too much like a 'Beefeater' & wouldn't be v. nice for sis. Any recommendations gratefully received.

Berries, if you put 'London restaurant guide' in Google it will give you quite a few guides to choose from with some good ideas. Not as good as a personal recommendation i know but you might find somehting that fits the bill.

If you're feeling flush, I'd recommend sunday brunch at the............ oh heck, i've forgotten the name of it, nice hotel, Jazz playing... I'll remember it and post it later if you're interested.

Thanks mcKenzie - I've tried a few websites so I'll check that out as well. Sis and I are staying Sun as well so the hotel sounds nice - can you let me know if you remember it?

mckenzie is it the landmark? I know they do jazz sunday brunch.

Is it for Saturday night or sun luch berries? What is your budget?

How about Rules? Trad English place in Covent Garden, they have private rooms etc for hire too so would be perfect. Their set sunday lunch menus start from £27.50 for 3 courses. You may have left it a bit late though

Here's a booking site - the biggest in London.

toptable

It has reviews and menus and 360degree pictures of the restaurants.

Very near to you is a restaurant called RSJ Brasserie. It is a fantastic little restaurant. Not sure if it on toptable but it should be on square meal which SQ posted.

Also worth looking at other southside restaurants round about county hall there are quite a few nice ones. The People's palace in the Festival Hall is quite nice but quite big.

My fav london restaurant is Bleedling heart. I think it now has its own website so you could try googling for it. Alternatively it is on square meal. It is just off Hatton Garden so you could do a little window shopping on your way!

Thanks for the info ladies - dh will be pleasantly surprised that you've come up trumps again! (although he is learning - he suggested I post!) Like the look of the brasserie, as wouldn't have any problems getting back later.
Will let you know where we end up. Oh, we need somewhere for Sat night & sun brunch/lunch so anymore suggestions gratefully received

Oh Sunday brunch definately needs to be Bank at the Aldych. Lovely lovely brunch menu and then just a short walk to Covent Garden for some light entertainment.

Or how about dim sum in China Town? Can't remember the name but there is a big one that does dim sum trolleys all day Sunday. Fantastic food and not too expensive.

ooh Soapbox, our office used to be right next to the Bleeding Heart in Ely Place. It's a fabulous place. Food is fabulous and service is great. Courteous without being pompous.

Christophers in Wellington Street would be a good place for brunch. (Posh) American restaurant so you'd get lovely things like eggs benedict.
If it's a nice weekend the Chez Gerard at the Opera Terrace overlooking the Covent Garden piazza is a great spot as you can people watch at the same time.
Or what about Joe Allen. Good for star spotting and great buzzy atmosphere.
