What products can I buy to help me sleep on a plane?

So am flying solo to US in a few weeks for relatives wedding. After a week's childcare I'm not sure DH will appreciate me coming back with horrible jet lag, but I just don't sleep well on planes.

I've been on amazon and they have some weirdy looking neck pillows that apparently help you sleep better so I was seriously thinking of getting one of those - not the normal wedge ones, these ones look more like neck braces.

Anything else that would help - already have eye mask and ear plugs?

I wish I was flying in a bed specialsubject.
I'm hoping as a middle aged female travelling on my own if there is any upgrades on the go, I might be lucky, but probably more likely to be squeezed in between two ample sized Americans in the hated middle seat.

It's to and from San Fran. I've flown to the US and Canada before, so I know that I will be jet lagged. I arrive back mid afternoon which is slightly better as not too many hours before I can reasonably hit the sack.

I've ordered a J pillow now - hopefully that will help.

Book an extra legroom seat. The extra £££ it costs are so worth it.

I've always found a double gin & tonic does the trick

That and forcing yourself to stay awake until your normal bedtime when you first arrive back.

Melatonin - available from any Walgreens, CVS etc. Always works for me!

Do you take it on the flight Rusholme? I have melatonin but I use it to regulate my sleep when I get back - is it as effective as sleeping tablets on the plane?

no food on the plane. have the first meal at home-breakfast time (assuming you fly arriving in the uk in the morning)
