If you don't need the car while you are there, take the train? Or take the car but go through the tunnel? Which is cheapest?

From memory it will take you about 4 hours or maybe a bit less to reach disney from Bologne/Calais. Speed ferries are very cheap - I used them last year and only about £80 return. Obviously you have to factor in tolls and petrol. It is definately feasible if you live in the SE - if you go on the ferry that can add to the fun of the trip for smaller kids. By the time you count up the time taken to get to Waterloo or St Pancras you will probably find it only takes 3/4 hours or so longer.

I would have thought it must work out a lot cheaper - you cld stay offsite and drive in. Just get that DVD player plugged in and off you go!! I hve to say it is much nicer getting eurostar from the parents point of view and really adds to the excitement as everyone else on the train will be going there as well.

It took us 8 hrs door to door to drive from Herts/Essex border to the Cheyenne Hotel via Eurotunnel with a few motorway stops along the way. Driving via the tunnel gives you the flexibility to leave home and leave the resort whenever you want within reason.
Depends on how you feel about the tunnel, some people don't like the thought of it.

We hired a car once but never used it once as we were staying on site, depends if you want to venture out and how the costs compare.

Plus you need a good confident driver, a good navigater and the patience of a saint .

We have driven further distance to get there, but only with one child. We have stopped part way overnight though.

Thinking of going next October - going to fly (£70 return with Air France) and get a car under £200 for a 7 seater for the week.

We are not planning to stop in a Disney hotel though this time, hence the car.

hmm, i thought that yes, it would be better from mine and dh pov to take the train. but i thought car woooudl give us more flexibility.
personally, the thought of the ferry scares me. i prefer the tunnel.

Not if you value your sanity!!

That's interesting stitch I find the tunnel far scarier than the ferry

I've done both with 2 children each time and the train was a lot easier and pleasanter although we did end up with a crowd of children watching our DVD player on the return journey! You are not really going to want to leave resort if just going for a couple of days but if you do you can get to Paris on the train really easily (we did it to placate older child who wanted to see the city). We drove to Ashford and left the car there.
