Summer Holiday in Austria

I´m looking for accommodation in Austria for the summer holidays. Anything toddler friendly really. Maybe in Steiermark or the Salzburg region but we are flexible. Do you know anything?

try www.kinderhotels although bear in mind that the childcare standards may differ to UK and that English may not be widely spoken. Otherwise Esprit, Crystal , Thomson etc all go to Austria - you could check their brochures and then book direct with the htoel or via the Tourist Office ! If you are going for more than a week or two then the Tourist Office might be able to secure you a good deal - email the towns you may be inetretsed in and they will reply with suitable "offers" - or check out the websites for ads.

I love Salzburg,

IamPotty · 30/01/2007 13:28

Yes. Salzburg city is magnificent.

Thanks Liz, Kinderhotels are great, have been to a few. Am now looking to book direct at a B & B or appartment hotel as these are such good value for money in areas like the Steiermark. You don´t know anything do you? I seem to remember you´re a regular visitor to Austria (???) Going direct to the tourist offices is also a great idea but I´d prefer a recommendation.

White Horse Hotel apartments on the lakeside in St Wolfgang here are fantastic.

We've been several times and they are just perfect.

LIZS · 30/01/2007 13:38

Only done packages to Austria apart from Lech , did our own thing in Switzerland though. St Wolfgang is very pretty.

Hi Bellalasagne, yes it is lovely there, really gorgeous. Will put it in my favourites for another time but currently looking to pay around 60 euros a night for a 2 bedroom appartment so will be in a less touristy area. Was thinking af somewhere in the wine region in the south or in the spa region. Have paid this amount or less in the past for quality accommodation in a more out of the way spot.

My first thought would be to look at www.farmholidays.com or www.tiscover.at for the main Austrian tourist board site.
Most of the farms have apartments and you can even chose child friendly ones.

I am dashing out right now but will post later with a couple of links that were sent to me, so 2nd hand recomendations.

This is one www.kuerbishof.at

Thanks Lapserunner, plenty of possibilities there! The kuerbishof looked nice!

This is another website I have been keeping as a "favorite" but not yet used www.landlust.at. It includes the Kuerbis one, seems to be a marketing group for a number of properties in East Stiermark.

Different area (Tirol)but try Google(ing) Haus Hislop Alpbach or look it up on www.holiday-rentals.co.uk. It looks great, Aplbach is supposed to be beautiful, we are going skiing there (to a hotel) in Feb.

I've got a friend who moved to nr Salzburg two years ago and set up a chalet and bed and breakfast place. The property is very child friendly as it has a good play area outside with swings and trampoline etc and They've got a games room as well which has a table tennis table, pool table, a selection of toys, games and books.
They have two young children of their own and are very family oriented and geared towards family holidays. I think their prices are very reasonable as well.
their website www.austrianfamilyholidays.co.uk

They will pick you up from the airport if necessary or obviously you can hire a car. They are english born as well which helps alot when you are in a foreign place!
Hope I didnt sound like I was plugging it too much, but I think its worth a look.

IamPotty · 31/01/2007 21:07

Thanks ladies, I´m having a look through all the possibilities!

Hi i was hoping to get some advise. I have provisionally booked a room in trebesing's babyhotel for a week in june. we are a family of 4 with a 3 year old and a 1 year old. but i've been reading the kinderhotel threads and am now a bit worried that we'll be the odd ones out. none of us speak german and a ltho' the kids will only be in the creche 1-2 h a day i don't want them to be excluded.also is thye alpenrose any better? what do you think should i cancel it?

hoteljunkie · 14/04/2007 13:16

bump

lapsedrunner · 15/04/2007 13:02

You'll be fine, there will definitely be some English speaking staff. We went to a Kinderhotel in Feb and loved it, we didn't really use the childcare as DS was skiing but it looked fine. Whatever you do don't cancel, the chance to spend a week in a Kinderhotel should not be turned down .

hoteljunkie · 16/04/2007 13:33

hi lapsed runner do you have any particular preference for hotels. i heard alpenrose is good.do you there will be more brits there?

hoteljunkie · 21/04/2007 11:53
