Unauthorised absence

So, i have just been informed that 3 very close weddings are happening in the next year. All of which are far away and on a weekday during term time. My eldest is in year 1 in a strict Catholic school. They sent a letter around recently that said they will not allow unauthorised absences. What should i do?

I know someone who has twice had time off from their Catholic primary school for weddings as they are a religious ceremony.

It's a school day. You have a school age child. He can't go.

Teacher here saying, "Yes, he can."

My county has announced they will no longer impose fines for low level absences... they wouldn't in OP's situations.

Don't contest a fine if one is levied, this almost never goes in favour of the parent.

More than six days off for weddings is an awful lot. And aunt / uncle weddings isn't like parents is it? I wouldn't go if it were me. Four weddings in term time week day is a lot

If it were my son I would take him from school and attend without a second thought. Weddings and family celebrations are important events and (hopefully) one offs :)

Hi OP. I've only scanned other posts but some info is incorrect.

I highly doubt the weddings will be authorised but I would be honest and complete the leave of absence request forms anyway (pop into reception maybe for these). Don't go in raving that you won't be paying a fine!

Your LA will have a code of conduct which states their criteria for a penalty notice. This for example could be 8 unauthorised sessions within 10 weeks (8 sessions = 4 days).

You may find if your child has no other unauthorised days that the absence doesn't meet the criteria for a fine. Or the school might decide not to fine you depending on the circumstances. I would definitely approach the matter politely and positively though.
