I love organising the holidays.

And I love saving money ;-)

We have always used Owners Direct for villas/apartments but this year they have added a service fee which worked out at almost 10% on top of the rental cost. Googled the villa we liked and booked direct on the owner's website, saved nearly €200.

Fleetway Travel here too - used them for many years & always go back as we've always had the best service & prices with them. Only once was their a problem holiday, way, way back & they refunded the whole cost without my even asking

There, not their Confused

Mixture of separate or package - use travel republic or booking.com and the airline's own website, but have a quick look at packages too if it's a package destination. Separate can be cheaper but not always.

We once got a package to Tenerife from jet2holidays where a week's hotel B+B, plus luggage plus transfers cost only £100 pp more than the same jet2 flight on it's own with no luggage.

That made the hotel virtually free as a case is about £60 return and then you need to sort out a transfer. Last time we looked easyjetholidays had some packages that were better value than booking separately too.

Haven't been to a High Street travel agent for many a long year.

Normally we do book accommodation directly with owner or hotel and get flights etc. on the internet.

The only time we book any sort of package is for more specialist things. E.g. we like self-guided hotel to hotel walking where your luggage gets moved on for you. We tend to buy those as a package. We have found Sentier de France and InnTravel very good.

Also we booked Iceland as a package through Discover The World, who I can also recommend highly.

Do travel consultants such as Travel Counsellors and eshores charge a fee?

JadeHawkinsTravelCounsellor · 23/08/2016 18:48

Hi Kittyhello,

It depends on the Travel Counsellor you use. We can use a variety of suppliers depending on who gets us the best price. I personally don't charge fees and the price you see is the price paid.

I have no idea about Eshores though.

:)

Jade thank you very much for your reply.

Make sure you get yourself covered with travel insurance though. I made the mistake of booking independently only to find the airline withdrew all flight, leaving us having to travel 200 miles extra round trip, and costing more money. I tried to see if it was covered by my insurance but told I should have taken out a special no-package type insurance.

Lovewhereilive · 31/08/2016 19:21

I book it all independently
