Post GCSE holiday, July 2017. Where to take a 16yo for a fab holiday?

That's it really. Me and dd. I guess it will be a great opportunity for a cheaper term time holiday. Would like to make it a good one as I guess it may well be our last holiday? By the time she's done a-levels she may well want to holiday with friends.

Must be warm/hot, but have more than just a beach. So whether that's national parks, water park, animal stuff, castles, cathedrals, historical stuff to explore.

I had really wanted to go to Costa Rica but july is rainy season so not ideal.

I had thought about Tenerife after a nice holiday there a few years ago which was cut short and we never got to do stuff like see Mt Teide which I wanted to. But when I mentioned it to dd she rolled her eyes and said she's been to Tenerife.

She would quite like Venice or Tokyo but neither appeal to me and I think Tokyo is too far and expensive anyway.

We've been to barcelona and Paris. She's been to Naples, Pompeii.

So places I was vaguely considering.......Majorca, Greece, Spain, Portugal. Any recommendations for any specific towns would be great.

Or totally different I had thought Sweden/Finland....but no idea where to start. Have googled and couldn't really find much specific info. But the thought of forests, lakes, bears sounded nice. Just unsure if a 16yo would be bored to tears.

Yes do watch out for prom too.

Our last one this year was 29th June so not as early as you might think.

I'd wait for a prom date before booking anything. Provisional timetables are out now so the exams officer at school may be able to help in September.

Will ring the exam officer in September and ask. if they know the prom date will just do it after then.

I've been googling majorca and am swinging towards there. Palma looks a nice little city.

Stockholm is lovely
Lisbon
Helsinki
For longhaul most of SE Asia is wet then. Dry options - Bali, Hoi An in Vietnam (north of country is wet) and not sure about the south,
Borneo
Sounds like a fab idea :)

I much prefer boston to New York. Also the beaches of New Hampshire are not far away - within an hours drive and there are lovely houses to rent right on the beach.

I took DD to Orlando. We stayed near Universal as she is a massive Harry Potter fan, and we could go back in the evenings any time we wanted to.

DD loved it.

Camper van for exploring

Train ticket for exploring many places

Megabus for exploring many places

Or you could book your own adventure with planes, trains, ferries, buses you just need a few places to visit along the way
The earlier you book the cheaper the travel is
If you travel overnight you save on hotel accomadation

How about Cuba?.... Few days in Havana then head to a beach resort or do a multi centre holiday- amazing scenery , culture and music....get there before it changes for ever

Lisbon. Lovely city, lots of history. Get a train to Cascais - lovely beaches around there (learn to surf?) and Sintra - walking, castles, winding streets etc. Great weather, lovely, friendly people and still pretty affordable despite £ crash.
