are you going on your own with a 3year old and 10month old, or is another adult (12 yrs and over) going with you?

You should get preboarding - make sure that they mark this on your boarding card (rather than A, B, C etc). I've found their flights great with children. They are usually on time, let you take buggy to gate etc. You have first choice of seats. When travelling with a 1yo and 3yo by myself I put 3yo by window, myself in the middle and let 1yo sit in aisle seat for as long as possible to get a spare seat, though typically no-one is dying to sit beside 2 toddlers.

You'll find European airports are much less geared up towards calling families with under 5's to the front of the boarding queue so elbow your way there ! Take snacks with you , handluggage permitting, as the onboard ones are limited and pricier.

Get through to the departure area in good time, so that you can sus out where the gate is and get to the front for pre-boarding.

There are lots of stressed looking business men who barge to the front and take no heed of priority boarding, the staff are good and knock them back at Prestwick, but on return journies not quite the same.

Many other european countries don't do queuing at the best of times, so gets a bit silly. Don't be polite, don't expect people to stand in a straight line, use the elbows and make like a european mum .

On board food is limited so check out the latest guidance on what you can take on board now, as they used to be quite happy for you to take a doggy bag on board.

Once on board I find smearing toddler with a packet of wotsits or putting a fake vomit on the seat will ensure empty seats beside you As soon as seatbelts on clean up with babywipes and relax.

Hi - another good tip for the 10 mnth old (if awake @ take off) - try and keep milk/drink bottle until the actual point of take off from the ground. This both distracts them and helps thier ears to pop. I've made the mistake of giving it to my dd when we are on the runway and by the time we go to actually take off it is gone!! A toddler with ears that have not popped is not a pleasant experience. Additionally I just keep a various long line of distractions such a new pencils/colouring book, reading book, magazine, breadsticks, crisps and for real ear splitting sceaming emergencies - chocolate buttons! Works every time. Good luck! (oh & yes, lots of baby wipes to hand)

My experience has been that although you get priority boarding, more often than not all that means is that you get to go & stand on the bus taking you to the plane first! Everyone else then gets on with you & then its a fight to get off & be the first off & up the stairs to the plane. Be warned! I was nearly knocked over when holding my 6 month old dd in this way by the throng! But all in all its worth it as the price is good.

10 month take length of ribbon and tie 2 or 3 toys on and then wrap round your wrist so they don't end up on the airplane floors and can be retrived easily. Also hard biscuits like the Farleys ones they take a while to get gnawed kept mine going for a good 15 mins !!!
Put hand luggage in rucksack so you have hands free have then one small handbag for passports / money etc.
Watch out if coming back to LGW as they can't manage to get the buggy to the door and it comes out in luggage hall.
