We're going for the first time later this year. Kids are 13,10 & 8.

Staying near universal for first 10days then in a beach house last 5.

All advice gratefully received Smile

Boggy Creek airboat was good fun and you are way up high above any gators. Tbh we only saw them at a distance, far more impressive was a bald eagle!

We all loved Cape Canaveral too.

chocoLit · 12/08/2016 17:41

BakewellSliceAgain - Cape Canaveral is on the to do - glad to hear you enjoyed it.

BaconandAvacado - am fairly sure they'll manage the water seeing as they're in the North Sea most weekends Grin but the few moments after all that money is maybe a tad harsh?? The snorkelling/fish sound super too so will pop that on the 'investigate list' Thank you!!

Holy Moly have just priced up the dolphins for all 5 of us

Please don't go and do discovery cove- it's as bad as seaworld Sad

chocoLit · 12/08/2016 19:36

I was just wondering that OliviaBenson - is there an alternative??

OP posts:
OliviaBenson · 12/08/2016 19:38

Not that's ethical I'm afraid. Best of seeing them in the wild from a boat, but I'm not sure you can do that in Florida.

chocoLit · 12/08/2016 19:40

I can do that from here - they're notorious in our part of the world I just wouldn't encourage DCs to head off into the water off the north of scotland to swim with them Grin

Shall scrap that and look at something else. Thank you Smile

Good choice OP! Smile

TSSDNCOP · 12/08/2016 19:41

I found Oct weather extremely pleasant, shorts and t-shorts with a sweatshirt for later.

Blow your budget on Discovery Cove. DS got to help out as a ranger.

Travel south the the Keys.

chocoLit · 12/08/2016 19:53

I'm hoping for some nice weather TSSDNCOP seeing as the Scottish summer has been such a joy this year

Is legoland worth it? We've never been to the UK one and were 3hrs away from the one in Denmark when we were there so chose not to Blush

Groovee · 12/08/2016 20:11

We did an airboat ride last visit and it was fab x

chocoLit · 12/08/2016 20:46

OK car hire booked so that's another tick in the box. I think I might go for the universal passes so we can come and go as we please to those and just buy a disney day pass...............

OneEpisode · 12/08/2016 20:51

Legoland is nice but not near. I probably wouldn't. You have plenty of options.

chocoLit · 12/08/2016 20:53

Alrighty scrap that then.

It is definitely worth buying the Universal passes. DD and I went back several times because the Cabana Bay is so handy. We ate out in City Walk restaurants a few times, and went to the cinema once.

BaconAndAvocado · 13/08/2016 20:43

Don't buy the Universal passes, stay at a Universal hotel and get them as part of the deal! (Only Pacific Resort, Portofino or Hard Rock).

When we stayed at Royal Pacific last year we enquired how much the Front of Line Passes would be bought separately - $111 per person per day!

So, for the 5 of us for 2 days the passes would have been $1110 and the 1 nights hotel stay was £195. It's a no brainer!!

OneEpisode · 13/08/2016 20:48

Front of Line passes would be is nice, but I think Op was talking about entry passes?

I would definitely by a two week or whatever entry pass, the day passes are £££££.
Op is staying at Cabana. She doesn't get FoL but does have early entry & can pool hop to all the universal resorts hotels.
I think op is visiting in October? Halloween Horror Nights?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 13/08/2016 21:18

Halloween nights at Universal are not recommended for children under the age of 13 due to it being too intense for young children. In terms of content, it is far more geared towards people in their late teens and early 20s age range.

Such nights there are generally geared towards horror films (Michael Myers of Halloween is featured there this year for instance) than the tamer images of hollowed out pumpkins, sweets and cobwebs.

More child/family friendly Halloween nights are to be found at the Disney parks.

OneEpisode · 13/08/2016 21:24

I've not been during HHN. I think the universal parks might adjust hours? Shut early?

chocoLit · 13/08/2016 22:13

OneEpisode is correct - we're going in Oct and booked into Cabana Bay - we wouldn't afford the other ones and still manage to do other stuff on our wish list.

The DC are only 13, 10 and 8 when we go so the Halloween Horror nights might be a tad much for the wee one.

OneEpisode · 14/08/2016 07:37

I don't think the front of line passes do you any good in the Harry Potter areas anyway! October should be good I think? I think they do adjust opening hours which would impact attendance.. We want to universal when dd was just 9 & we did use the single rider queues a few times. We queued as a family, then one adult rode, then dd, then another adult, and met up at the exit. Dd is brave though! Queues are peculiar though, at other times rides were walk on!

OneEpisode · 14/08/2016 07:38

Sorry for all the !. I think I was excited for you, thinking of the big pink donut in the Sumpson's area

chocoLit · 14/08/2016 20:21

lol no apology necessary OneEpisode - am just realising it's time to get the old finger out and start looking at options. It's not our usual type of holiday so all advice gratefully received.

You can go on the Sea Screamer boat which I think is at Clearwater beach and you will see dolphins there, they tend to follow the boat
