Hello,

Thinking of going to Amsterdam with my 14yr old (who loves history) and my mother. So we'd like to be near Anne Frank's house and any thing else historically interesting. please advise me what else we should see and if anyone has hotel recommendations that would be great. Budget is 100 ish per night.
Thank you Smile

Thank you Bobby for the cafe recommendation.
Lj I'm sure you're right but I'm now paranoid about paying a lot for a hotel and not being able to sleep due to noise!

If you are going to Anne Frank huis you can only book online tickets unless you go after 15.30 but you'll be lucky to get in. Tickets are released two month beforehand. Haarlem is also a very naice place to stay and a short train journey to Amsterdam. 15 minute walk to AF huis from central station.

Im going with DD this summer. Can't wait. Its the only museum my other DC read everything and was completely impressed/overwhelmed by.

I honestly found the RLD much quieter than some of the other parts of Amsterdam. The hen and stag parties tend to hang out around the club and bar district which I believe is a bit further south towards the museum district.

We found accommodation in the centre surprisingly expensive. So book early I think, an apartment would be a good idea.

It's small and v walkable city.

RLD it's odd to walk through but as there's Windows right next to the oudekirke you can't help but do so. Have the chat first with your daughter!

Church in the attic is fab and quite quiet. Anne Frank's house queue was really long, like hours, even if you'd booked.

Bike tours looked fun.

we're going in August so thanks for this thread!

i have booked Anne Frank museum
have a bike tour and a boat tour on the to do list
plus van gogh museum
will look up rembrandts house, church in a house/attic ? (anyone got a name?) and the Amsterdam museum.

What have i missed? Would love to venture further afield and see clogs, windmills, cheese etc.. (bringing the kids) - anyone know a great day tour provider?

amida there's an amazing flower market on the water which is must see and if I remember correctly there is also lots of cheese market stalls there too. You will see lots of clogs around Amsterdam too.

Im so jealous reading this thread and really want to go back!

You must go to a Febo! It's a fast food place dotting all around the city selling burgers, chips etc and these amazing breaded melted cheese things. It's like a big vending machine for fast food! Your 14yr old will love it.

thanks for the suggestions. Getting excited!
would also like to do a bike tour out of the city, but need kids' bikes and my dcs don't ride much so wouldn't be great in busy crowds. Will take a look when i'm there unless anyone has done one they can recommend?
