Okay so how warm is it in Melbourne, and what sort of warm?

Only a week to go until ds and I go on our trip to Melbourne (which he won the flights for).

Am I going to die of heat exhaustion and is ds just going to roll up in a ball and refuse to do anything?

Or is it a nice heat?

here

hope that helps. It is usually a more dry heat in Melbourne than the muggy queensland heat.

eidsvold · 21/01/2007 07:28

better link here

eidsvold · 21/01/2007 07:29

oh low 20's lucky you been 32 here today and the kind of roll up in a ball and do very little

nearlyfourbob · 21/01/2007 08:09

Low 20s sounds fine. I was in melbourne in July (no ds)and never mastered the trams so just walked everywhere. But I am aware that expecting a 3 year old to walk miles in summer just because mummy can't work out a rather complicated map thingie is probably not on.

DH was there for the cricket a couple of weeks ago and it was cold and rainy.

sunshinefairy · 21/01/2007 09:10

similar to our summers = dry heat. but the weather can easily change so need to keep umbrella/jumper handy. As it can be hot in the morning but raining by the afternoon. You must go to melbourne zoo can catch a tram from the city. I think they are coming in for cooler weather?

nearlyfourbob · 21/01/2007 18:02

I don't care if it cools down a lot. I just don't want it to be 40 degrees.

I promise I will work out the transport so ds can go to Melbourne Zoo. I also thought the aquarium, the museum (great bug exhibit) and buying an all day ticket on the yarra river water shuttle thingie.

There used to be a free tourist tram which just did a circular route round the city good for site seeing. It was more the getting off the trams and finding you had at least 2 lanes of fast moving traffic on either side which used to freak me out.

Melbourne the city of 4 seasons in one day. Layers and umbrellas always reqired I seem to recall.

We always loved the botanic gardens - free and plenty of space for a toddler to run about.

...do they still have the MacDonalds attatched to the front of the children's hospital?

nearlyfourbob · 22/01/2007 04:19

Hopefully I won't end up at the children's hospital to see!

Last week DH would have paid a lot of money for an igloo, he said ...
It was 29 degrees when he went to bed at 10pm and around 39 during the day.
Mind you, he is a girly wuss when it comes to high temperatures (being fair and freckly and all)
He says it is a bit cooler this week but still hotter than Christchurch, Nearly4bob ... way way hotter than Christchurch

sandcastles · 22/01/2007 06:43

We have had torrential rain Friday, Saturday & Sunday, was supposed to last til Tues...been 30 odd here today!
But bareable, just take it easy type heat.

nearlyfourbob · 22/01/2007 07:52

Christchurch was pretty hot today and I didn't do anything outside at all because of it - but it's not a nice hot - it's so dry your throat gets sore and you get all headachy even in the shade.

Tell me it's nice in the shade!

thirty odd here today and still around that now at 8.30ish. very muggy - waiting for more rain to take the edge off but it is going to be hot all week. Well we are coming into our summer months - Jan and Feb - why I wanted to be 8 months pregnant through that - silly woman I am.

hi nearlyfourbob. I have been looking out for you. I know absolutely nothing about Melbourne but I have been wondering how the holiday went with the inlaws and your sil? Did you manage to keep pil stay to 3 days?

enjoy the trip to Melbourne. how did he win the tickets?

nearlyfourbob · 22/01/2007 17:37

The visit from PIL was not a raging success (see thread about depressed dh) but at least they did leave on the correct day.

They wouldn't use their own car once they got to the holiday home (we have a 7 seater) and they wouldn't suggest anything to do - so the first day I took them on a long improving walk in the middle of nowhere complete with sandflies and they moaned like hell. The next day I asked them what THEY would like to do and they just simpered "anything you like" so I left them reading the newspapers and drinking tea and took ds out to swim in the river when they weren't looking. They left me to strip their beds and clean away their towels when they had gone. On the plus side it motivated me to spend the extra $50 on a cleaner for the holiday home as I don't mind cleaning up after myself - but cleaning up after them I do mind.

Ds won tickets in an Air NZ promotion for dressing up as the Christchurch Gondola.

oh, sorry to hear about your dh. Will look for thread. I haven't been on mn much lately so must have missed it.

Well I guess the holiday went as you expected, so no surprise there. At least you have Melbourne to look forward to. Have a great time
