Hi, going to tenerife for the first time. gigantes and adeje both look nice - what are the pros and cons of both, or is somewhere else better? Its in the winter, so needs to be south due to the weather. We like pollensa, playa blanca, peurto del carmen type resorts....definately no night clubs and not too much tat. thanks

Ah yes I checked the bus route ( I need to get out more) and whilst the trip advisor website suggests it goes from La Caleta, the first stop looks to be near Siam Park which is a bit away from La Caleta.
I don't remember getting an advance permit to go up the mountain, we just drove to the cable car place and bought a ticket.

I reckon it would be about 27 euros to get a taxi to your apartment each way, therefore provided you have a parking space, the most efficient way to do it is hire a car for a week ( Auto risen is very cheap - just reserved our October car for 105 euros) use it for there and back and the Teide trip, then you can go on foot or by taxi the rest of the time.

Smile to be clearer (sorry!)here's no advance permit needed for the cable car, its just to get to the very summit.

I sat on the summit grinning after two previous attempts to get there were thwarted by too much wind for the cable car - but that was er hum years ago!

I've had 2 or 3 trips to Tenerife where I have wanted to go to the summit but not got there yet special. First time didn't realise about the permits, which were all taken, so didn't bother - didn't want to go up cable car and not get to summit.

Second time decided couldn't be arsed as too busy laying on beach and messing about in the sea.

Third time got the permits, hired the car, drove up there and it was too bastard windy and the cable car was closed. Had a bit of a wander near the road and visitors centre but the wind was awful and it was freezing despite being 30 C down in Los Cris where we were staying. Heaved sigh of relief that we didn't go on the bus as we would have been stuck there for about 6 hours and had a nice drive over to Puerto de la Cruz for a different flavour of the island.

Not been back to Tenerife for a while as we've been to Lanzarote or inland Andalucia instead but I think we need anothe go at it soon.
