security at Heathrow - dollies allowed?

Hi
I'm flying to australia with my 3 yr old next week and can't find any info on taking toys through security. I've sorted puzzles, and books and even DVD's but I really need to know if she's going to be able to take her Dolly with her!!

Obviously if she can't I'd rather start telling her now that the doll will have to go in the hold, but if she can take it on, it would be nice. What I don't want is them conviscating it at the gate and leaving me with a screaming child on a 24hr flight!!

Any views, info, gratefully received.
thanks,
Jo

I'm pretty sure dolly will be allowed. We flew a few weeks ago, and the main security problem is with liquids. Dd had her toys with her in a backpack, and everything was allowed on board.

As I understand it the restrictions re such items have been lifted.

But they do enforce the 'one bag' rule very strictly.

SparklyGothKat · 18/01/2007 16:18

DD2 took a teddy on a flight to Mencora, teddy had to be scanned and they let her keep it with her on the flight

They are very slack at Heathrow - DH is always going in with food and drink and a bag to work and the security guards just say "go on then"

Cabin items/hand luggage and hold luggage - you will firnd more upto date details on www,baa.co.uk
British Airports Authority.
But im sure doll will be OK, especially as you arnt flying to US which is very strict i beleive.

prettybird · 18/01/2007 16:21

As long as it can fit in her hand luggage, then you'll be OK. And as she is over 2, then effectively, she gets her own right to take whatever the limit in size is - even though in practice you'll be the one carrying it for her.

How big is the dolly?

Rember, if you want to take a handbag on board, spearate to your hand luggage, that you'll need to be able to put it into your hand luggage as you go through secuirty. You can always take it out again afterwards.

I have to do that at the moment when going down south on business: I need me laptop case, but I alsotake a handbag that is small enough to go into the laptop case while it is going through the secuirty scanner (and also when going back the jobsworths at gatwick - Luton and Glasgow don't mind me only putting it in when I get near the conveyor belt)

Great - thanks everyone for your help and advice. For the person that asked, she's a baby millie from ELC, or same size as baby annabel. We will be "accidentally" leaving behind the bottle and dummy that make her talk though for the sanity of the other passengers!!
Oh and sorry to be thick, but what is all this "DH" and "DD2" thing that I keep seeing on these pages?

dh - dear husband
dd2 - dear daughter number 2 as opposed to dd1 - dear daughter number 1

skinnynomates · 19/01/2007 10:56

How strict are about what you can on-board going to the US? Am flying in April to Washington, planning to take on books, few toys, cd player / mp3 player etc.

Jodiec · 19/01/2007 10:58

oooooh!!! ah very clever!!! Thank you!

I've read everything on the BAA website and I think you can take all of those things. As long as they all fit into the one hand luggage bag. DVD players, laptop etc have to be taken out at the gate and scanned seperately. There does seem to be some seperate information on there about the states though which I didn't read fully as not going there. www.baa.co.uk
