Hi There,

Looking for some advice, we are going to the Uk for a wedding in June / July and wondering what is best to do in the way of direct flight or stop over with our baby girl. She will be 7 months by the time of travel

Is it best to stop over for a night or two ? Or fly direct ? We were also thinking of flying emirates as I have heard they are good. Depending on stop over though will depend on air line.

Also - What are the baby hammocks like on the plane ?

Any advice would be great

Regards
Claire

hello
have done UK to NZ 3 times now, and IMO the younger the better! Even better if she's not crawling by 7 months, stationary babies much better!

haven't travellend Emirates but don't they have the Sky Nanny thing? sound great..don't know how their hammock/bassinet thing works but they are def a massive bonus. seem to have good prices at the moment as well, ILs have just booked with them because they were so much cheaper than others.

on the stopover - I have always thought it's best to get it all over and done with in one fell swoop. otherwise you spend the stop over trying to get some semblance of sleep at the right time and then have to do it all over again when you get to the UK. But I guess it also depends on how long you're planning to spend in the UK as to whether it's worth it or not. Emirates stop over in Dubai I think, no idea what that's like but someone on here is bound too!

anyhow, am rambling, but I think 7 months is a v.good time to travel - it only gets worse as they become toddlers!

Thank you so much for your reply - you have been a great help. We are looking at going to the Uk for around 3-4 weeks.

I read on the emirates airline that you can also take the car seat as well. Do you know by chance if it costs more to take the car seat ?

Thanks again

the sky cots are fab. We travelled first with dd1 when she was 8 months old - UK to AUs. We flew SIngapore airlines - fab fab fab.

Emirates does two stopovers - SIngapore and Dubai. THe most direct route is stopover in Singapore. When we did the 1st trip we flew direct with short stopover LHR to Bris, adn again on the way back. Singapore does one stopover in Singapore. Our 2nd trip we had 5 days in Singapore - fab.... but we were coming back to Aus to live. Meant no jetlag by the time we were ready to come to Aus.

We also flew night flights.

IF you do a search there are tonnes of threads on flying between AUS and the UK.

ooh yes meant to say search - there are loads of threads on this

re the car seat - there won't be an extra charge to take it I don't think, but it'll probably have to go in the hold? Not entirely sure on this as we've bought DD her own seat every time as she's always been too big for a skycot and I wasn't going to carry her...so the carseat just went in her seat.

we took a car seat second time round as dd1 had her own seat and used this rather than the airline belt etc.

Don't think it counts as part of your luggage allowance. Singapore are somewhat generous about luggage.
