French Holiday Villages - Swimwear 😖

Having read a previous thread I have been tempted to look at Siblu Holidays in the Brittany area in the summer. All looks perfect for my two very lively boys!! Perfect apart from the swimwear requirements. Husband and boys categorically refuse to don the required "budgie smugglars" but it seems to be necessary at most French sites. Does anybody know of anywhere that doesn't have these strict rules or should we just give up and go to a different country?!

We (well, OH and DS) got told off a couple of years ago for this, after getting away with it for donks

The lifeguard said it was because of sand getting stuck in the creases then muckying up the swimming pool Hmm

Here's the thing, tho. They had to buy shorts style thingies from local decathlon-but now OH SWEARS by them

He reckons they shave minutes off his time and wont get rid of the buggers

No special rules for ladies, but men normally have to wear proper lycra shorts or Speedos. You are not allowed baggy Bermuda shorts, or tee shirts. This is for "hygiene" reasons, to keep the pool water clean. As everyone is wearing them, no one takes any notice iyswim.

The last time we were at le Ranolien near Perros Guirec. This time we're going to one in Benodet which I hope will be the same.

Siblu not sibling!

webjunkie · 03/06/2016 17:24

Idontlikealdi please tell me of this place!

We've done these holidays for years and never had the rule enforced. The chaps do pack emergency hammers just in case.

Just a thought, isn't Siblu a UK operator with their own parks? Might have different rules to the Yellow/Castels type operators.

ChippyMinton · 03/06/2016 17:26

Confused jammers not hammers

webjunkie · 03/06/2016 17:27

I checked with Siblu HQ and they state they do have this rule. Maybe it's down to individual site as to whether it's enforced. If anyone has any suggestions they'd be gratefully received!

We've been to Huttopia sites in France and had no idea of this rule! Lots of Dutch and some British there.

webjunkie · 03/06/2016 18:06

Thanks nulgirl I am very interested in le ranolien - it looks fabulous!

Thank you fruitpastille Huttopia looks gorgeous but maybe a bit on the quiet side for my wild boys!

The boys/men at DD' s swimming club wear this type of thing

TheHobbitMum · 03/06/2016 18:15

We stayed at la croix de vieux Pont in Berney Riviere with eurocamp and no budgie smugglers in sight! My son and husband would point blank refuse it! It was a camp pool not municipal :)

clearsommespace · 03/06/2016 18:18

IMHO overweight people look better going naturist than in tight fitting swimwear. (Would grin if I could find the square brackets on tablet)

Brokenbiscuits86 · 03/06/2016 18:20

We stayed in Brittany last summer at a eurocamp site and DH wore board shorts in the pool, everyone else seemed to as well...had no idea that's not the norm!

webjunkie · 03/06/2016 19:00

brokenbiscuits86 can you tell me where you stayed?

OP posts:
Brokenbiscuits86 · 03/06/2016 19:18

Les ragunes plage (sorry too tired for proper French!) it was lovely there.

nulgirl · 03/06/2016 19:24

Webjunkie- le Ranolien is a fab campsite. We loved it. Really clean and beautiful surroundings. That part of the coast is amazing. Not sure how old your kids are but mine had a great time - were 6 and 8 at the time. We're going to Port de Plaisance near Benodet as we are going with friends and fancied a change. Might go back to Le Ranolien in the future though.

jenpetronus · 03/06/2016 21:10

The "hygiene" thing to me seems bizarre. I've lived in France for 13 years and see men weeing at the side of the road every single day. Hygiene?! Really?! But I am quite used to men in speedos. If you find a campsite where it's not enforced, they are risking it, apparently it is the law to wear them. Hmm
