Have been looking for a cheap holiday for us (under £1000) but some of them quote me for 4 adults and 1 child, yet there is 2 adults and 3 children. Don't understand.....

oh, when you find one let me know... 2 adults and 3 children here too. Bumps the price up doesnt it ?

and they would happily cater for 2 adults 2 children and a dog, but not another child...

I know where you are coming from, I really do.

Have you looked at Thomson ? I find their website the most customer-friendly out of all the travel companies.

I found a holiday to ibiza for a week, in may, self catering, for £894. Am seriously thinking about booking this one. was on thomascook. And they didn;t charge for 4 adults, quoted me for 2 adults, 1st child £49 2nd and 3rd child £79. Thought it was a good deal.

Sometimes it doesn't make a difference whether it's a child or an adult unfortunately.

fizzbuzz · 19/01/2007 16:43

Sorry, have read this and need to rant.

How come my 13 year old son, pays 1/2 price in pictures, and on bus, but pays full price when travelling on holiday. I also have to pay vat on his size 11 shoes as they are no longer childrens' sizes.

This whole area is a rip off. Thank you for letting me vent my spleen!

Another one here who would love to find a reasonably priced holiday for families with 3 children.

I very rarely come across a holiday I like that offers child prices for the 3rd. I might take a look at Thomas Cook.

My DDs would faint if I told them we were going away and it didn't involve a tent or a caravan!

tiredemma · 19/01/2007 17:25

Get the mail on sunday this week ( I know its the mail, i know its the spawn of the devil!)
Thomas Cook have £50 money off vouchers in there.

mosschops30 · 19/01/2007 17:36

sometimes its cheaper, I have paid for 3 adults and 1 child this year, even though we are 2 adults and 2 children.

Worked out about £200 less, something to do with supplements

wheresthehamster · 19/01/2007 18:42

Have added Mail to shopping list.

Tortington · 19/01/2007 18:45

and when you have an odd number - 3,5 7 - you end up paying suppliments for a person who doesnt effin exist - motherfuckers.

i too thankyou for venting spleen excersise.

I have the same problem with 1, because I'm a single parent. I had to pay full adult price to take dd on holiday last time, and she was 4!!

PersonalClown · 19/01/2007 18:47

Don't ask me. Maybe try Direct Holidays as they are sold without agents etc. Mum has said they're pretty good. She went 2 years ago with 8 of the family.

Underoccupancy charges for kids(headline prices assume 4 adults sharing) added to the adult prices, often mean it is actually cheper to get a quote for 4 adults - ludiocrous but true. You may find it cheaper (as we did) to book the same accommodation direct and pay per room/apartment plus TC flights. Thomas Cook couldn't explain it !

At the end of the day a seat's a seat so even if a child's sat in it then they don't take up half the space. This yr DD & I are going to the states - her tickets were £100 less, but last yr to Spain we all paid the same price. At least my DD seems to have the same baggage allowance as me which is going to be handy, esp with the current pound-dollar exchange rate!

Packages tend to offer the better child deals.

Which cinema do you go to fizzbuzz? At the ones I go to children's tickets are only £1 less than adults.

SparklyGothKat · 20/01/2007 12:43

I;m not sayying that children are taking half the seat, but it seems a bit off that these compancies charge for 4 adults when there isn't 4 adults going.

why not look at a cottage/villa/gite somewhere? then you just pay for the hire of the property + airfares? Though i guess in school hols they can be pricy for a big place
This place , for example is £1200 for a week in august

SparklyGothKat · 20/01/2007 12:53

Can't see that page, something about cookies. It is an option we have looked at and my parents have offered to come too and babysit in the evening so me and DH can go out by ourselves.

how odd, ok we've been with these before and the descriptions we've found to be v. accurate:

There are lots of issues around this! I am in the middle of complaining to a holiday company because we went to New York at New Year. Paid full adult price for 4 of us -boys age 14 and 16 - yet ended up sharing a room with a sofa bed for the boys. We didn't pay a penny less than if we had been two separate couples. The boys had no wardrobe space and we had to share one small bathroom off our bedroom so no privacy at all! The other one I have issue with is for all inclusive or club holidays - like Mark Warner or Club Med; the boys pay full price but obviously can't have an alcoholic drink so aren't we subsidising other people to drink? Surely there should be a under 18 price for this sort of holiday to allow for the fact that they will not be drinking.
