Entering UK without a passport

Is it possible for a UK national to enter the UK without a valid UK passport (or any passport)?

News just in. They are in the UK!
I don't have the full story yet, so don't know who they had to bribe how they managed it.

Giddy you're spot on. She was told to be more careful next time and waved through both sides of the channel. Didn't even make a pretence of checking details.
