Got a bit of a query. my son will be 10 months when we visit Orlando, we are staying in a Disney hotel, and i'm worried about what i will be able to feed him. If i buy an adult meal, meat and veg etc, can he have that or will it be too salty? should i be making my own while we're there?

anyone know what i can do. we went when he was 5 months old and he was on puree which was easy and buyable. not sure what to do. we don't have a kitchen at the hotel, just a microwave. HELP

You should be able to get him a plate of vegetables at least that you can mush with a fork. Rice and pasta should be fairly plain too. Spag bol type meals always seem to go down well too. Extra milk too if you're worried he's not getting enough.

We've been away a few times with DS (now 12 months) and this is the type of thing i stress about pre-holiday then it's always alright when i'm there.

The other good/easy thing is yoghurt and fruit. If there is a fridge or minibar in your room you can buy some in the supermarket. I also stock up on breadsticks/rice cakes/bananas and such like on arrival for snacks

You would also hope that the disney hotel would be geared up for children...could you look on their website or email them in advance to see if they offer childrens meals.

I guess you could always buy some jarred food once there, although my DS always seems to be sick on these (?)

Use your discretion - wouldn't go mad with highly sauced or seasoned food, but most Dsiney places do 'grilled chicken with salad' type meals to cater to Atkins and other restricted diets, so order cannily and I should think you'd be fine.

Maybe stop at a supermarket or pack some snacks you know he likes so you don't end up stuck having to buy processed rubbish from kiosks.

my big fear was only being able to get food thats so salty it would make him ill, we're not hiring a car so don't know how easy it will be to find a supermarket. i know the area well enough, maybe i'll have to get a taxi at the beginning and stop up on a few things. The hotel are great we can order some food to be there when we arrive.

Hi Diddle, We've booked to go to orlando in April and DS will be 11 mths. I have been wondering the same thing, particularly as he is not great with finger foods at the moment.

We're also staying in a hotel (but not a disney one) and won't have a car. I'm going to take some of the breakfast powders you just add hot water too as I've a horrible feeling he may want breakfast about 3am on the first morning! At least I'll have something to feed him that doesn't need any preperation.

I've never been to Florida before but I'm hoping that there'll be places to order a jacket potato or some pasta he'll be able to have that if I can mash it with a fork.

When are you going? if it's before we go in April let me know how you get on and pass on any tips!

We go to Orlando in September, our ds will be 11 months (1st birthdday while we are there) and our dd will be nearly 4. We have been before we had kids. There are plenty of places you can get stuff for babies. I was recommended a website www. babiestravellite .com (2 spaces) They can provide everything for babies. I will be using them for the first time to get nappies, wipes etc so I don't have to take a load with me. Look out for Publix or a Walmart. We are staying in Idrive and we are not having a car either. We will probably get a taxi to Walmart or Publix so we can get some supplies. I have been told that we will need a buggy for dd even thou she walks everywhere here, it is a diff story in the heat and no one wants grumpy kids!

SuperSaint · 18/01/2007 16:08

Claret - Thanks for the website. I'll have a look.

Our DD will be nearly 4 when we go and DS will be 11 months. We're also staying on I Drive without a car so it sounds like a very similar holiday! I'll be able to give you lots of tips!!

There is a Checkers Drive throu/diner across from the biggest McDonalds in the World. It is really cheap if you are looking for a quick bit to eat after a busy day at a park.

Supersaint, we're going the 29th april. have also posted another thread about this is the food section, and had a great response from someone who's been to canada, She said the childrens menu's normally had a good pasta or pizza dish on there. Plus i think we're going to have to make sure we have a decent meat and veg meal a day and just feed him from ours. Going to take some powdered breakfast just in case too, stuff i know he likes. when do you go?

we've been lots but never needed to pay much attention to childrens meals before. The Disney parks are excellent with babies though, they all have baby care centrs where you can go and buy some food, and bottle/breast feed. change baby/ highchairs in there too. even a tv room for toddlers.

claret- thanks will take a look at that site.
hope you have a fab time. i was more worried about overloading him with salt more than anything. I know the supermarkets sell Gerbers baby food, which is great stuff, they do toddler meals, but staying on Disney i doubt we'll get to the supermarket

Diddle - we're going on 19 April for 2 weeks. Reading the replies to this and your other thread it seems we should be ok food wise.

DD is quite a "healthy" eater - she prefers pasta and jacket potatoes etc to chips and chicke nuggets so hopefully I'll be able to steal some of her food for DS!

Are you buying your disney passes before you go? Reading some other threads on here that seems to be the suggestion?

claret1980 · 24/01/2007 16:02

We have always bbought our tickets there but this time we are buying ours before we go, then there isn't a huge chunk out of your spending money!

diddle · 31/01/2007 08:28

We have bought our passes here from orlando passes Like most places at the moment they have an offer on where you can get the 14 day Ultimate for the price of 7 days. we paid £179 per adult, and the postage is free. they send them to you ten days before you trvael, which i like. I'd rather have the passes in my hand, whereas some places ask you to collect them when you get there.

You can also buy them online direct from Disney at wdw passes

hope my links work
