Tell me your 4 must-eat places at DLP

Off to DLP at the end of July and need to get booking four places to eat dinner on the nights we're there. We are staying at the Sequoia Lodge.

I've trawled trip advisor and other threads on here but I'm totally overwhelmed....I just want a quick overview of your top 4 places to eat a family meal that edible (as there are some really bad reviews on loads of the restaurants) and where they'll be something for DS (11) who barely eats anything.

My current list of Monday to Thursday dinners is:

  1. rainforest Cafe
  2. Hunters Grill (at Sequoia Lodge)
  3. Plaza Gardens restaurant (but no idea what food they serve)
  4. Planet Hollywood (although reviews are put great compared to other PH's)

Would this be similar to anybody else's lists?
I've got McDonalds as a fail safe for one night if not.

What sort of food is Plaza Gardens?
Also, I've been looking at the steak house on trip advisor....what sort of thing on the children's menu does anybody know?

The problem with booking DLP restaurants is that the reviews are totally mixed.....making it a nightmare.
Even Planet Hollywood, which every time I've ever been to one has been amazing, looks crap!

Right, we've decided.....

Hunter's Grill every night except one at Planet Hollywood.
Buffet best choice for DS I think (I don't care if he lives on bread and desserts all well) and one night (hopefully the service and food are ok) at PH.
Thanks for all the info ladies.

You're crazy! There's loads of great restaurants... Don't go to the same one every night!! Shock what a holiday waste!

Mamagin · 28/05/2016 23:03

If he's not that keen on food I would go for experiences, Buffalo Bill one night, and Blue Lagoon as the pirates of the Caribbean goes through it. Why should you and the rest of the family miss out on good food? Take him a book and if he's hungry then get him a McDonald's on the way back. He may surprise you and choose ostrich like our picky eater did. (And he ate it)

CotswoldStrife · 28/05/2016 23:09

The Plaza is a buffet restaurant - we went a few years ago and ate there twice in the evening. We get the meal plan so have a limited number of restaurants.

We are going back there in peak time in a few weeks, so we'll be booking the restaurants again! Expecting it to be busy. Will probably try the McDonalds as well (DD eats there now!).

I've been going to DLP ever since it opened ,at least yearly ( sometimes more) and at all different times of the year and I have never booked anything except Buffalo Bill before I got there and I've never had a problem getting a table . When we visited last ( November ) we ate mostly at PH which I've never been keen on but they have the most comprehensive gluten free menu ( dd is coeliac) . We ate at Annette's for one meal but what was supposedly GF obviously wasn't as dd felt very unwell . Buffalo Bills show is worth doing irrespective of whether you eat the meal . In the past I've had nice meals at The Blue Lagoon and the Silver Spur and the Buffet in The New York . If you want a nice afternoon tea / coffee the cafe Fantasia in the Disneyland hotel has a lovely atmosphere .

Plaza gardens....awful. Avoid. My husband got food poisoning and the food quality was poor. Worse than school dinners.
Blue lagoon in pirates of Caribbean ...very good and good atmosphere.
Annette's diner.. Reasonable food and fun as the staff are on roller skates.
Cafe remi ...good
Auberge de cendrillon a special treat for a girl but a bit overpriced.
We liked ambience of the rainforest cafe but the food was so so.

Auberge de cendrillon is the only one you have to book before going. The best time to go to the other places is mid afternoon before the parade. Stuff yourselves at breakfast and carry a few snacks to get you through to the mid afternoon meal. Starbucks good for a coffee or quick meal.

It's weird but from the trip advisor pictures. I'm s tally feeling meh about the whole trip to be honest.

The rooms look like a Travel Lodge with a few Mickey Mouse references and 1980's interior .....which would be fine were we not paying a huge amount for the privilege!

Last time we were in France, I contracted E. coli 0157: H7 from eating manky duck cassoulet in Carcassonne so really not fee,ing great about eating at DLP. Think I will stick to croissants and fruit.

We stayed at the sequoia lodge and it was nice enough, it was certainly my favourite hotel there (also stayed at Newport Bay and Cheyenne). One of the biggest downsides of DLP to me is the food. If you go with low expectations you'll be fine!

I am guessing that the way to do it is prob the Disneyland hotel but to me it's not worth the money for DLP.

Floralnomad · 30/05/2016 19:51

Ive stayed at all the hotels except Sante Fe and Cheyenne , the New York was the main one for us for many years and I really like it , I'm not keen on Newport Bay , even though we had Captains Cabin access . The last couple of years we've done the Disneyland hotel as my dd has CFS so finds it easier to be near the parks and the proximity to the parks / Fantasia cafe make it worth the extra for us .

I8toys · 31/05/2016 13:09

Went at Easter and had a meal plan. Best for me was Bistrot Chez Remy - totally magical and The Blue Lagoon in the Pirates of the Carribean ride. Also ate at Walts and the Steakhouse - okay but nothing special. Buffalo Bill's show is - chilli, wedges and chicken - fine with the show. My children are 10 and 12 and very fussy and they ate most things.

Verbena37 · 31/05/2016 13:56

Thinking we might now risk not booking on one night or lunch time and go to Annette's Diner and hope we get a table. The kids were upset when I said we were only eating at the hotel each night except one.

Pirates of the Caribbean restaurant !!

Verbena37 · 01/06/2016 20:13

Well, I called today and booked first and last night at Hunters Lodge and then we will try and get into Planet Hollywood and Annette's Diner on the middle two nights.

Inventions at the Disneyland hotel is only decent food have had there on three different trips.

Verbena37 · 01/06/2016 21:33

Thanks Mouldy...I'll remember that if we can't get a table in the other two.

OP posts:
Hallamoo · 05/06/2016 15:19

Inventions is 57 euros per adult (over 11's are classed as adults), and 31 euros per child, for lunch!

Unless you weren't planning to take out a 2nd mortgage, you might want to be aware of the cost!

leccybill · 06/06/2016 00:10

Just got back yesterday.
Ate at Annette's one night about 7pm ish, queued for half an hour for a table. Food was quite nice, fixed price menu is 21.99E for a main course and a brownie dessert.

Ate at McDonalds another night, if you do, pay at the machines, it's much quicker (bank card needed).

Just a warning - not only are a lot of rides under refurbishment (I think 17 out of 50ish), but a lot of areas are behind hoardings - the entire front of the Disneyland Hotel is behind a hoarding, it did take the shine off our visit somewhat (that and the torrential rain, and the air traffic control strike). DD loved it all though!

Verbena37 · 09/06/2016 13:18

Thanks Leccy.
I did see some Twitter pics that seemed like there was a fair bit of refurbishment going on. A bit naughty as I think they should tell you that when you book. I guess it says somewhere in the small print.

Oh well, I'm just taking it at face value....expensive holiday for the kids and hopefully lots of book reading whilst DH and kids are on the rides Grin
