Mexico with 4 DC and pregnant... help!

Me and DH recently booked holiday to Mexico in August for us and our family. We have 2 DS's (will be 16 & 3) and twin DD's (11), not to mention I will be 6 months pregnant with DC5 when we go!! Does anyone have any advice on how to manage long haul with so much to worry about? (I have considered inviting my parents but they wouldn't be able to afford Mexico and I don't want to offend them by offering to pay)

while it is obvious that zika can have dire consequences, taking any chance with travel insurance adds financial disaster to the list. As two recent tragic cases involving British nationals show.

there are a whole bundle of reasons not to take this trip. Change or cancel. Even if all the money gets lost; trivial compared to the possible consequences.

I love Mexico have taken my kids and had great Holidays.
But pregnant with the zika risk? Absolutely not. Why OP did you think you would be "protected"? By what? You could get bitten by an infected mosquito getting down the plane steps. There is no protection. You can do all the normal things to minimise the risk of being bitten but as we all know, you may still get bitten!
Why would you risk the life and health of your unborn child for a holiday. Sometimes the sheer bonkersness of people on MN is breathtaking.
Go and have a great holiday somewhere else!

agree specialsubject travel insurance is really expensive for us due to pre-existing conditions but it is always the first thing we do before even booking the holiday. just would not want to take the risk. ever.

I am shitting myself about going to Florida for work whilst pregnant - no way in god's green earth would I go to Mexico at the moment.

Yes Zika a problem (unless you're high up). We currently live at altitude in Mexico - no Zika at all. As a pregnant woman you shouldn't go - but for all of those saying it's a nightmare destination with kids in general, I'd disagree. My daughters love it here - we've been coming since they were tinies - of course you brush your teeth with bottled water, but otherwise it makes a lovely, and cheap holiday. Fabulous food, lovely people, interesting culture (all those Aztec and Mayan cities) and great beaches too.
