Bottle feeding abroad??

We are going to Holland for a long weekend and am wondering what is best to do for my bottle fed 9 month old. I thought I would take cartons of milk but we usually sterilise bottles in the microwave. I know I don't have to sterilise but would washing the bottles in water in France give him tummy trouble? Should I boil water then use it to wash up? First time mum worries again...

Hiya - you can get sterilising tablets and liquid from Tesco. Milton do some.

or i've seen cold sterilising boxes (?) in boots - I think. They aren't too big.

I used the very natty Babytec Travel Steriliser - it packs up very small.

I'd also take a travel kettle with you if you're staying in hotels, as these aren't available as standard in Holland and France, although you can ask for one.

Good idea. So you reckon the water wouldn't be a problem with the sterilising tablets? I guess not as the chemicals in the Milton would kill any bugs in the water.

sterifeed bottles, come in packs of 4 ready sterilised and disposable available in supermarket/boots etc. about 4.95 for a pack but saves hassle if you are only going for the weekend

There have been people saying before that washing bottles and teats in very hot water is sufficient, you don't need to sterilise. I'd be very tempted, not least as your baby isn't little.

I wonder if maybe I should start giving him unsterilised bottles here for a while before we go away to see if he's ok.

That makes sense.

If you look on the Breast and Bottle Feeding section, I'm sure there's a thread about how it's not necessary to sterilise. If you're using cartons of milk, then just put the milk in the bottle right before giving it to your DS.
