With grateful thanks to a search of the mumsnet archives and glowing reviews (mostly from C.Dracula!-thanks) have booked 2 weeks in tobago this easter.
Any tips of unmissable things to see, places to eat etc.
Have found the mytobago website which is great
Will be DH and I plus 13/10/8 yr old.

Wow!
How funny!

Are you staying at sea steps by any chance?

Our favorite place by far is Castara - lovely fishing village - and Englishman's Bay (nearby) is lovely. Charlotteville is the really end of the line place, worth a trip. Lots of the beaches are nice, Bacolet Beach has a great beach bar.

Boat trip to the Nylon Pool which is a shallow patch in the middle of the sea, lovely place to swim...
Glass-bottomed boat trips are good so you can see the sealife
There's a restaurant in a tree somewhere on the coast, think it's called something like Auntie Mabel's. It's quite famous, anyone will know if you ask around.
Drinkswise, Bentleys are rum punch without the rum, lots of lime and Angustora

Second the tip about the Nylon Pool - it's fantastic and you'll see the coral reefs on the way and maybe get to stop off for a closer look.

Maybe look into hiring a jeep and driving yourself round. Scarborough (capital) is good - Fort George is interesting from a historical viewpoint.

Am so - lived in Trinidad as a child so been across tons of times!

oops - sorry

bakedpotato · 11/01/2007 16:39

[so did I, C&C, were you in PoS?]

Also if you snorkel or dive off speyside they have giant brain corals (really massive) and lovely fish but crap coral in general. There is a funny little birdy island that you can get a boat to and just jump off to snorkel, much cheaper than hiring a dive boat

[I went to school in POS for a while but we lived in St Augustine for a while - my parents still live there but I haven't been back for about seven years!]

just realised I'm typing and posting like a total plonker today - sorry

Lucky you Miggy! Nylon pool and Batemans Bay both worth a visit. I was there in May and got to watch giant leatherback turtles laying their eggs at night. Our hotel kept a list of people that wanted to be contacted at night to go and watch.

thanks all, will print and take.
CD we are staying last 5 nights at castara but not sea steps, a similar looking wooden cabin/chalet type affair that I found through mytobago site. Castara looks lovely.
We have 2 nights at the hilton (courtesy of dh's Hilton points) a week in a villa with a pool then 5 nights Castara.
Cant wait now.
Dh will probably decamp to trinidad for a few nights (theres a bird there you can only see there I think) but as long as I have the pool and a book I dont mind! (will of course have the children as well but never mind!)
