One of my best friends has been there a couple of times. She has always enjoyed it and is planning to book again soon. Her dd is now 4, but was about 2 the first time they went. The one thing she did say was that it has a very help yourself attitude so for example there is a fab cappocino machine, which you can help yourself to whenever, but if you want the luxury of being waited on you'd be disappointed. she also said that the whole eating together thing can be a bit annoying after a while you get to the point where you just want to be relaxed.

SmileysPeople · 14/01/2007 21:13

We've booked to go for the first time in the summer Apostrophe. We like the sound of the help yourself attitude, as that suits us with the kids. Kind of like being self catering, but without having to shop, and having all your meals made for you.
so not like self catering at all then.

Anyway we were a bit unsure about the communal eating thing so have only booked for a week, to test it out.

We're really looking forward to it though we love Italy. We went for 3weeks last summer, but were self actering.
I asked about it on here a month or so back, you may be able to find that thread. I was told that there can be some upthemselves tosser types there, and some celebs. Ooooo.

Astrophe · 14/01/2007 22:01

thanks for that, I'll go and search the thread out

Ooops sorry, 'Astrophe'. Just realised I changed your name.

Astrophe · 14/01/2007 22:14

tis ok, people always do

I just found and read the thread and kind of wish I hadn't, 'cause I had it in my mind as pardise and now my dreams are shattered!

It does still sound good, only things that put me off are the 'piece of the uk uprooted and planted in Italy' idea (but I think I knew that really) and the idea that there will be lots of rude snobs there who want to know how much we earn! Do you think the fact that we will be unemployed, homeless travelling Australians will work in our favour?

Where we went last year there were hardly any Brits, just all Italians, but Ds did mangae to find the only two other british children on the whole beach and spent his time playing with them. So part of the main attration for us is ready made playmates, which equals relaxtion for us.
Slightly worried myself about the potentially snobby people you may be forced to mix with, but keep thinking 'surely they won't all be like that??'
If you want to go in the Autumn, you could always wait until I've been, and then I'll give you the low down.

cameroonmama · 15/01/2007 21:38

We went there last year at Easter time and I posted my comments on the other thread. I certainly didn't meet any snobby people, all were very interesting actually! Unless that makes me a snob . The food was amazing as was the facial I had, lovely pool and tennis court too and plenty of friends for the kids to play with.

We flew into Pisa and had a day there too.

Its not for everyone, but worth a visit.

SmileysPeople · 15/01/2007 21:42

That sounds like what we're hoping for!

We went to Pisa for the day last year and I really loved it and DS1 did too. The area around the tower was heaving, but away fron there were some lovely streets, shops and restaurants. Getting excited now..only 8months to go!

cameroonmama · 15/01/2007 21:59

We liked Pisa too, we also managed to visit Siena, Florence and the many small beautiful hill towns nearby, too lovely.

Also, a bonus for any gal - discounted designer shopping not so far away! I only managed to escape to the local shoe emporium but the opportunities are there, if you have the time or inclination...

Villa Pia was a great base for us, but I wouldn't go back unless we filled the whole place with friends or family.

SmileysPeople · 15/01/2007 22:06

We're just going for a week, so not planning on doing too much sightseeing, we did loads last year.
We're imagining lazy days by the pool, while kids amused with playmates, and even even a bit of novel reading...maybe I'm hoping for too much now.
But for this we are prepared to make sporadic conversation with strangers in a similar postion, and we may even enjoy that!
