any MNetters do very long car journeys on their own with kids?

am planning to take kids home to my mum and dad's at Easter - it's a 6-hour drive (at least) and am not sure I'll cope! hate motorway driving, so am doing dual carriageway (longer but less stressful). am I mad or will dd (4) and ds (2) miraculously behave impeccably in the car?

We actually paid an extra £20 and got one that can play different stuff on the screens. It seemed a good idea as dd1 likes films and dd2 is only 18mths and so likes the Fimbles.....

God, can it get any better?

Is it off-putting when driving? (er, less so than two screaming banshees in the back!)

My two used the speakers (too small for headphones) and dh and I were still able to listen to the radio as the speakers face the children IYSWIM and we had the car speakers on in the front only.
Err and yes MUCH less distracting than yelling children.
Ours is by Acoustic Solutions. The screens are good but I have to say the player bit is a bit cheap and plasticy and quite big as the players are side by side. It has remote controls too though if your kids can use them. I think we paid £150 from Argos

We actually bought two separate DVD players (rather than one with twin screens) for our three as ds2 can cope with several hours of Thomas the Tank, but the other pair need something a little more entertaining! You can buy an adaptor thingy from Halfords (not expensive) to plug into your lighter socket which means you can run both at once, and they each get so involved in their own that they don't notice the noise of the other. Total godsend for eight hour journey in France last year.

Strangely, as I type, I'm just wondering if I can face driving from Kent to Scotland in order to have our car in Ireland this year! (Not to mention the several hour journey to Galway when we get there!)
