Is a holiday abroad with a 10 month old madness?

Trying to decide what to do with our holidays this year.
Would it be crazy to think of a holiday abroad?
Is it just as crazy to think of travelling the country visiting friends and relatives?
Literally from one end to the other!!

Abroad would probably be easier than travelling the country!

We went to Asia when DS as 9 months - stayed with friends mostly but did have a week at a beach resort in Thailand. Was fine.

Did a night flight both ways so he slept. The Thais are fab with children esp babies so when we were having breakfast most mornings one of the waitresses or waiters would take him and walk him around a bit - the were very apologetic one morning when they couldn't as they were busy!

We went backpacking in Australia and Hong Kong with a 9-10 month baby. It was easier than it would have been at any point in the 6 years since then as we now have 3 small children and occasionally staggar down to the local park for a bit of a thrill.

not crazy to do it now, it's probably the best time for a long time.

As long as you have fairly low expectations in your planning it is perfectly possible and may even be a pleasant surprise ! Accept that you won't think of everything and will need to be vigilant as regards safety, that you probably won't have a particularly straightforward journey ( think mobile baby travelling on your lap and getting restless on a plane for instance) and that they may not eat or sleep as well as at home - but equally true at home and abroad !

Also it depends how mobile your baby will be which you can't predict until the time comes. I say go for whichever option you prefer, although babies seem to cope better with one long trip than with constant car rides.

We are about to foolishly book a trip in June to the US when our DS will be 15mths, madness probably but we are thinking of another at some stage so its bound to be better now than it will be in the future.

We camped in France with 9 month old twins, people did give us funny looks but we had a fab time!

We took DD to Brittany at 5 months, renting a house. We had no problems at all - indeed we all enjoyed it. Renting is a good option, as you have control over meal (and hence bed) times and can make as much noise and mess as you want.

Yes, I like the sound of renting.
I found a lovely looking, place a couple of years back, in france but now I am not sure if I could find it again.
Any recomenadtions for internet sites etc?

I think you may be right that one long holiday would be better than traipsing around the country.
I had thought to just head down to my brothers round nottinghham way, from the north of scotland, but figure the drive ought to be broken into two days?
Traveling is such a nightmare from up here! You have to travel 2 hours just to get to an airport, then the flights cost a bomb. To get it cheaper you have to go all the way to Glasgow or Edinburgh, a 6 hour journey (without a baby!)
So I guess, Anywhere is going to involve two days of travelling!?
Oh boy!
