Slaley Hall is nice, I went there for some balls when I was at uni. The Copthorne Hotel in Newcastle is nice too and has a pool.

Redworth Hall is lovely, as is Slaley. If you are staying at Redworth then it isnt far from Diggerland which I should imagine your sons will love!!! My mum got married at Lumley castle, I grew up about 2 minutes away, but it is expensive and perhaps not a great place for kids IMO..more of a romantic kid free break? Maften Hall is also fantastic, and if money was no object I would recommend Seaham Hall..

Hilton newcastle is right on the quayside in the centre of newcastle - were you wanting in the city or out in the country?

redworth hall is very nice, we stayed there last year (without dc though ). Before you book anywhere try laterooms.com - I think that's who we used and we got a night for about £65 instead of £130

We stayed at REdworth Hall this weekend and tbh I wan't impressed at all. It does have a pool and a soft play area for the kids aswell as an out door adventure playground so it's good for kids. But I think it's over rated, tatty decor, not great food and vastly over priced.

Have also stayed at Slaley Hall and Hilton Newcastle and Seaham Hall. Seaham is stunning but not really suitable for kids, Slaley is good and also has kids facilities and fab pool with slides and stuff.

Hilton is fab for a base but not much for kids to do but fab location for city centre.

Thanks to all for replies..so glad I checked back in to Mumsnet as I was just about to book Redworth Hall. Northerer, should I try and get into Slaley Hall instead..saying that..this will def be a kids break and I know they don't notice the decor etc..but don't want to ripped off if dire.

My other option was blackpool..thought it would keep my neice (14) happy with the younger ones but although the hotel, Big Blue is offering a good rate, by the time we do pleasurebeach, tower and swimming I could be rooked!! Anyone know what Pleasure Beach for little ones??

Oh..decisions......decisions

Check out the marriot at the metro centre... they have themed rooms.. wild west, arabian nights etc? No idea how much they cost or anything as like I said I only stay about 10 minutes away, but I know they have a pool, and its walking distance to the metro centre, metroland (indoor theme park), bowling cinema etc... Certainly wouldnt say that redworth hall is dire..

northerner · 09/01/2007 10:56

No REdworth is not dire, just dissapointing imo. I expected more. Slaley is better I think.

Blackpool fab for kids though yuo will spend lots of money!!
