Lake Como or Lake Garda?

I fancy a villa or perhaps a hotel on the shore. Perhaps a budjet of about ?600 for a week, first week of April.

Any recomendations of places to stay or websites to look at. Will be hiring a car most likely and driving from Bergamo.

What will the weather be like at that time of year? Will lake Garda/Como make me want to stay forever or will it burst my Italian dream.

TIA for any ideas or info.

Have stayed in a villa at Lake Como and it was beautiful (April year before last). Weather good and bad (rained a bit) but a wonderful holiday. Amazing scenery, lovely people and food and loads to do. I went with my sister and we had four children with us - still very easy to do huge amounts.

Which company was that with?

Wasn't a company - independent flights, hire car and villa. V easy to organise.

Going out now and working tomorrow and Friday but if you have any questions/stuff I can help with, please ask and I'll try to answer when possible.

Thanks, booking it all independatly too, got a good quote on flights so trying to match up.

Anyone else, I am looking at The Village Garda, but a reveiwer described this as Butlins in Italy, which kids would love but not sure if I could handle it after our Spanish holiday somewhere very similar last year.

lake Garda is most beautiful place I have ever been to....

I am slavering at the pictures on the web but worry that the reality won't live up to it. I saw trip to lake Como on the holiday programme and it was stunning, at the time I never thought I could afford a trip there, Ryanair does have its uses. SOme of the lake side apartments look to good to be true for the money.

Garda is a big wind surf centre, loads to do, incl visiting Dolomites which are fantastic. You can travel all over lake via hydrfoil, also Venice and Verona are reachable from Garda.

Thanks that sounds great, trying to decide if it will be warm enough to go for a mobile home in April?

Why don't you try www.childfriendlytravel.com and ask them for a report on Lake Como/Garda - it's free and they know their stuff!

My hubby and I stayed in Malcesni(?) in Lake Garda a couple of years ago. Went half board and had a marvellous time. Can't remember the name of the hotel though. Considering going there again this Easter with our kids. We booked through First Choice. The plane was terrible, but the reps on site were good.

Como is prettier, swisher (Italian footballers have villas there and George Clooney is a regular ! ) and closer to Milan(and there is a local factory outlet centre called Foxtown !), Garda probably has more to do, is near Verona and possibly a bit warmer.
