Has anyone stayed at Woolacombe Bay Hotel ( or any other child friendly hotel?)

Is it any good.?We stayed in a 'child friendly' hotel last year and enjoyed it. Thought we might try again this year but fancied somewhere different. Has anyone got any other recommendations if no-one has been to woolacombe?

Haven't been to Woolacombe but have stayed at Sands Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall which sounds similar and we enjoyed that (kids loved it) so are probably going back this year. Also in Cormwall, just up the coast from Sands is Bedruthan Steps, stayed there when ds1 was little and suspect we would now consider it too expensive with two strapping boys. Also in the probably too expensive league is Moonfleet Manor in Devon. sorry don't have website addys for any of those but should be easily found on Google.

We've been to Sands too! Just fancied trying somewhere different this year

we are going back this year for the 4th time . we don't stay in the hotel itself, but in the self catering apartments behind. you get to use all the hotel's facilities but have the flexibility of self-catering. we have never used the childcare during the day, but boys (ds & his cousins, aged 4, 4 & 6 when we were there last year) love the evening entertainment. the grounds & swimming pools are great, as well as the beach of course. woolacombe is a nice little vilage, pretty busy during the summer, lots of nice cafes.

so yes, a definite reccommendation.

YAY! I'm just going to have a look at those apartments! Is there any scope for babysitting or baby listening so you can go out for the evening? Dh and i would love an evening out to ourselves.

we stayed in the chine hotel in bournemouth last year - chine hotel - had fab family room (2 rooms but with one door)- do have baby listening (you have to call the room), kids playroom, kids tea, kids club i think and it is near the sea.
Got quite a good deal on dinner bed and breakfast

hoxtonchick · 01/01/2007 09:56

not sure about baby listening or babysitting as we go with family so have grandparents on hand . more likely in the hotel than the flats i would think.

Never stayed at that hotel but the area is great.

Lovely beaches at putsborough, croyde and saunton too - all very close by.

MamaG · 01/01/2007 10:11

same as aDad, I've never stayed in the hotel but can wholeheartedly recommend the area. Its great for kids (I love Saunton sands)

aDad · 01/01/2007 10:14

saunton is nice - dunes at the back of the beach, and rockpooling at low tide. Also on the right day a longboarder's paradise.

MamaG · 01/01/2007 10:15

um..I don't know what a longboard is - but yes, the rockpooling is fab, I love beaches like that.

DimpledThighs · 01/01/2007 10:17

we have stayed there but before children. It is beautiful and you are right on the beach so you can run the little ones around a lot. The hotel is lovely and has a nice pool. I would give it a try. The food is great too, but nt sure how you would do that with children.

aDad · 01/01/2007 10:27

longboard is just the long type of surfboard, and that beach produces a wave that is totally suitable for it. The surf doesn't normally get as big as croyde. A great place to learn!

Hoxtonchick - any tips on which appts would be best to go for?

What puts me off apts is worrying about the kids being noisy!!

hoxtonchick · 01/01/2007 10:39

there are loads of noisy kids pablo . we stay in the flats a bit up the hill. hang on, will look at the website. these

Pablothelittleredfox · 01/01/2007 10:41

Ha ha! I can imagine. I always would feel a bit conscious if mine were charging up and down in flats!!

It looks great though and am looking for somewhere in August for a week. Already going to Cornwall in May half term.

hoxtonchick · 01/01/2007 10:45

honestly, ours are seriously rowdy & have never stood out . we are going for 2 weeks at the end of aug.

Pablothelittleredfox · 01/01/2007 10:46

Ha ha - we are looking at last week in Aug! I'd be trying to spot someone who looked like they might be a MNetter (don't know how!).

hoxtonchick · 01/01/2007 11:01

oh brill. what age are your kids? i have ds who'll be 5.5 & dd 2. plus 2 nephews. in fact, i think there'll be about 12 of us altogether.... cat me if you want .

Pablothelittleredfox · 01/01/2007 11:03

Ah, if I told you that I'd give away who I am and I'm in disguise!!

If I book it I'll email you through fishy if that's OK? I think you meet up with her, or have done, so she probably has your contact!

Will show it to dh later - it looks brilliant!

hoxtonchick · 01/01/2007 11:04

fishy=cod? i am crap at anonymity .

Pablothelittleredfox · 01/01/2007 11:05

Yes, Cod. But I am not her!

hoxtonchick · 01/01/2007 11:08

hoxtonchick · 01/01/2007 11:29

Pablothelittleredfox · 01/01/2007 11:36
