Last year went to Edinburgh for a couple of nights for a hen do. We went for a meal then Salsa dancing lessons in a club. Next day did the castle and then the dungeons. Enjoyed the meal the salsa lessons were good but lots didn't join in! The venue for the salsa lessons was a bit of a dive. There was a wide age range within our group so it suited most as us oldies went back to the hotel for 12ish while the younger ones went clubbing and didn't get in til five!!

Went to Blackpool for a hen weekend went to see Chubby Brown, then on to Funny Girls which was really entertaining, a real cabaret act.

best one I went to was mine
I had a party at my house. Everyone just had to bring a bottle (so not too expensive for anyone to come), my Mum and MIL to be did the food and I hired a Karaoke. I had about 60 friends round and it was excellent

edingburgh sounds great - she loves the city and we could fly - make it a real event. Can youremember where the salsa place was / where you stayed?

for mine we had a weekend at Oasis/Centerparcs near lake district. They have a fab spa and some luxury villas with jacuzzi, dishwashers etc plus decent restaurants. It was quite civilised, but that might not be what you're after...!

DimpledThighs · 29/12/2006 11:43

tommy - yours sounds fun (like I would have for mine I guess) but my sister likes her occasions! I think a health spa in edingburgh with maybe the salsa dancing would be fab!

dingdong - were there lots of children at centre parcs?

my sil organised mine in july, it was fab. She had small badges printed with the likes of "Claire brides friend" she asked for everyone to supply a white vest top(there was 20 of us in total) and had "20 hens" printed on the back of each one with "No Cocks" below it! She made up little party bags for everyone with a small champers inside and straw willies. We all had chinese then a goodnight out without drawing too much attention (which i hate)

Will check tonight with a friend which hotel we stayed in it was basic but good breakfast was buffet style excellent value! Most of the rooms had 3 single beds tea and coffee and was a short walk to the main shopping centre.

I went with my friend from work on an activity weekend in keswick. It was in summer but raining and we did abseiling, canoeing, paintballing and (best of all) rock climbing. And two brill nights out. Unforgettable!

TheBlonde · 29/12/2006 19:29

Badges idea is always good esp if not all the attendees know each other

Best one I've been to was Blackpool - 2 nights Fri & Sat
We did Linekers bar (foam party) Fri night, pleasurebeach rides Sat daytime, Mexican meal then Cabaret show then club

Sorry DT asked friend last night and she couldn't remember the hotel we stayed in either! I think it was something House and it began with a 'H' (I think!)

My friend (who got married) organised her own hen do as it was her second marriage and she used an booking agency that does that type of thing. She was disappointed with there service they charged in the region of £400 for organising this while the accommodation and food were good/basic the Salsa venue was a bit of a dive.
Since our 'do' we found out that there was a more upmarket/appropriate club that does salsa in Edinburgh that is well known.
How about the Edinburgh Tourist Information Centre, they could point you in the right direction, they could give you prices for the castle or dungeons too!!
Hope you manage to find something sutible!

one lovely thing that happened at my favourite hen night was the sudden appearance of a brass quartet of the hen's sister's mates, who played 'I'm Getting Married In The Morning' in the pub we were in.

mythumbelinas · 31/12/2006 00:34

Had a fab time at a hen night few months ago.
We booked 4* hotel in Dubai .. luxury breakfast buffets, sunning ourselves by the lovely pool and gorgeous beach, fantastic shopping malls, eating out, went to a club called Trilogy (if i remember correctly) bar and drinks, site seeing etc .. nothing outrageous but very relaxing and very enjoyable .. loved it!

MrsJohnCusack · 31/12/2006 04:55

went on a hen weekend to Edinburgh in June and we did a cocktail making 'class' followed by a yummy meal at the Opal Lounge, which is a smart cocktail bar place (slebs go there apparently...). it was great and v.civilized, and not that expensive either.

DimpledThighs · 31/12/2006 08:26

ooh thank you - this is shaping up nicely!

Does anyone know any health spas where we could have a facial?

geordiemacmincepie · 04/01/2007 11:48

can recommend www.purespauk.com/

its a spa at ocean terminal, where there are some really nice shops too. They also offer packages which combine lunch at one of the really nice restuarants that they also have here!!! The terminal is in Leith which is 5 mins in a taxi from Princes Street.

vinorouge · 06/01/2007 12:40

From experience both good and bad (!) I would recommend that if people are not going to know each other you organise some kind of break the ice game/activity for when you all get together otherwise it can end up being little groups of school, work, relatives etc iykwim.

I went on one of those organised ones this year and it was a rip off with naff hotel so would def say better to organise the separate bits yourself.

vinorouge · 06/01/2007 12:41

oops I have't been on a hen w/e this year - not in the swing of 2007 yet!
