Short visit to Bangkok - what to see?

I love the restaurant at the top of the Banyan Tree - in fact if you haven't booked your hotel that's a lovely one. Khao San Road used to be an interesting place to walk down for little markets and backpackers - especially on Thai new year where there is a MASSIVE water fight although that happens in a lot of places in Thailand.

In a couple of weeks. We have just booked a boring hotel, for the sake of somewhere to go. We are visiting dd.

I have no idea what there is, apart from the palace.

book a tour guide, it's about £40 a day and worth every penny. They will incorporate what you want to see and add their own suggestions. Bangkok is an incredible city and that's the best way to see it

If you visit the Royal Palace cover up arms and legs, long sleeves & trousers

You can walk from there along river to Wat Po the temple of the reclining Buddha

Then get ferrry across river to Wat Aran temple of the dawn

If you like shopping Chatuchak market or BTK indoor market

China town good for street food and browsing

There is a train metro and sky train or tuk tuks and boats on the river to travel

You can buy a map and travel round yourself. If you look lost people will usually point you in the right direction or hire a local guide or visit via an organised tour

The floating markets are in towns a couple of hours away from Bangkok

The city is busy, but there a places of calm too

Depending on the time you have 2 trips worth doing from Bangkok:
Kanchanburi - this is the bridge over the river kwai area - great museum
Ayutthaya for amazing temples
both are doable as day trips, but recommend leaving quite early as traffic in Bangkok is horrendous.
Jim Thompson house is worth a look and quite relaxing.
