passport photos: those stupid new rules

does anyone know if they enforce the rule about the head being at least 29mm? and will they object if I photoshop some up and print them on one of those fancy card photo printers (which look like a proper photo to anyone other than somebody who spots pixels for a living)? only the ones I did of ds are less than 29mm.

and aren't the rules stupid when applied to babies? how often do they actually look at the pictures anyway?

Think they are more relaxed with under 5's. dd is n't square on so you can't see both ears, head at an angle and chin to top of head is only 26mm!

SenoraPartridge · 28/12/2006 17:46

ds is 21mm chin to head. he is staring at the camera in an amusing passport like pose though.

I'm just worried as I really want to travel in february.

I thought one of my dd might be rejected as it wasn't perfect but they accepted it. They are more relaxed about children.

Yes daft for babies who travel with them till they a 5.
Find more details here www.passport.gov.uk

Try www.photobox.co.uk - you can download your own digital photos and muck about with them until they're exactly right then they'll print them as passport sizes pics and it costs about 10p!

LIZS · 28/12/2006 17:53

Are you applying in Spain or UK ? We found that the British embassy in Switzerland who processed dd's first one were far more relaxed (you could clearly see my hand holding her up to camera in a booth !) Info here states between 21mm and 34 mm is acceptable for kids

SenoraPartridge · 28/12/2006 17:55

ffs what happened to joined up government? the file I've been looking at, on the fco website, says that babies don't have to be looking at the camera but do have to be 29mm.

I had my form sent back when I tried to get ds's passportafter using normal passport pics, so I went to Jessops and they took some phots and told me if they weren't right they would do them again for free. Then I went to the post office, paid for the check and send service and they were refused AGAIN, Jessops did them again (and for free, as promised) and finally we got a passport!!! It's ridiculous really but we got there, after 3 attempts!!!

Blondilocks · 28/12/2006 18:28

DD's head was smaller than it was supposed to be so was rejected. Mind you there was no way of adjusting the photo booth to make it busy, and a few weeks later the bloody thing had been removed anyway!

Also it doesn't help if you only have enough change on you for 1 attempt & she says, ooh that's lovely & presses the green button before I had chance to look at it!!

Blondilocks · 28/12/2006 18:28

bigger - not busy. don't know what happened there!!!
