Food that lasts. Long haul?

So we fly to Australia soon. DS is a good eater but won't eat wet food so if Emirates give spag Bol he wouldn't eat it. Nuggets and veg are fine. Thing is I obviously can't take the risk so need to pack food that will last the 20 hours or so we are on the go.

Any suggestions? We have fruit, crisps, croissants but beyond that getting a bit stuck on what will keep long enough. He doesn't eat cheese!

Even if I take an under 100 ml frozen cooler thing it's likely to have defrosted before we even get on the plane.

We plan on eating at Glasgow and hopefully there will be something at Dubai but he's awful if hungry so need to be prepared!

I carried food for Ds on journeys to Australia in a cold bag because of food allergies.

Do just be aware all uneaten food will need to be thrown away in the large bins provided on arrival in Australia or you risk a large fine. Even after doing this, we attracted the attention of the sniffer dogs who strongly reacted to the smell from strawberries in our cooler bag. A tiny tin of tuna and sweet corn did not have to be discarded but were never required and made several journeys to and fro.

Useful items for us were fruit, sultanas and dried apricots, one filled bread roll, crisps or hula hoops. He almost always found enough to eat from the food provided, although boring and plain it was ok for one day.

What about malt loaf? They sell individual packets now. Also breadsticks and dried fruit? Cereal/flapjack bars too.

There's a viariety of eating places at Dubai so you can probably pick up more snacks there if you run out.

How old is your DS? It might be worth a call to Emirates to request a special meal. They're very good with kids.

"Peanut butter sandwiches?"

I don't think that would be a good idea. Some airlines don't allow nuts or nut products if there is someone on the flight with a peanut allergy.

I knoW People who would have a violent allergic reaction if someone in the vicinity had peanut butter. What an irresponsible suggestion

I am about to do the reverse flights and am planning same due to intolerances.

I will be taking a Thermos Foogo www.thermos.com/product_catalog.aspx?CatCode=FOOD to fill with ice cubes at home, in the airport bar, from the hostesses etc on a regular basis. I am hoping that will keep everything chilled and get me over the liquid volume bit. I think that being stainless steel, the cold will come though well enough. A couple of things can be put into the bag frozen.

Food: I am planning each meal x 4. Risotto cakes, pancakes, cake already sliced, puffed rice biscuits with sliced cheese, rice crackers with hommous in a pot. Plus various treats in Ziploc bags. I might make a rice/marshmallow bar or something.

Now that I think about, the ice cubes can get dd over the going up and going down if she sucks on one or more.

Good luck yourself.
