All ideas welcome...

Other half's 40th is looming...I want to plan a really lovely weekend in London. It's still six months away but would like to be able to get reservations/ get planning, hence my post now.

I'll book first class train tickets (I advance, so not too pricey)...but beyond this, all suggestions for hotels, restaurants, stuff to do great fully received!

Ok all...following on from your fab advice, I'm looking at St Martins Lane as a likely hotel. Can get the two nights room only for £500. Does that sound reasonable? Any opinions on this place gratefully received!

It's great location! I've never stayed there but £500 sounds good value if it's a nice hotel!

I've never stayed but I've just looked on tripadvisor and it gets good reviews - that's a great price for 2 nights in central London, go for it. Make sure you mention the 40th

Well I've gone for it and booked...came in just under £500 which looks like good value given location. I mentioned his birthday and they took a note of his name and stuff so hopefully they will do something to recognise it.

In case it helps anyone else, the price I got from then on the telephone was cheaper than any of the Internet search engines, so glad I called directly
