Eating out in Leicester with young children

Does anyone know of anywhere nice in Leicester (or Leicestershire) to go for lunch with small children? Somewhere where they won't mind children and will provide high chair, etc but preferably not one of those chain wacky warehouse type pubs.

hi bnm. I can rec Stones in St Martin's. My DS and DD - 7 and 4 absolutely love it and always ask to go. It's great as cafe/deli type stuff goes and a great tip is if you have a little one, sit them up high on a bar stool and everyone else on chairs. I really can't understand why but they rise to the'occasion' every time and are good as gold. We all like the tuna, cheddar melt toasty thingy. I bet they do have high chairs too. Another grown-up kinds place is AsK pizza, that's always nice. In Market Harborough there's a new Zizzis - all non smoking and Prego. I too hate those sticky pubs - avoid at all costs - my rule is, if there's a big banner saying families welcome then walk the other way. It is possible to partly carry on as pre-kids.

Thanks! Thats really helpful - I'm never sure whether places like Ask and Zizzi will mind children (always imagine people out for work lunches giving us disapproving looks if baby cries!) - DD is nearly two and DS is 3 months so should sit quietly in car seat or pram.

I will rave here about a soft play plce that has just opened in Melton Mowbray. Entry is £3 per child, for unlimited all day access. Lunch is basic, but very very cheap and well made. They are very clean, friendly, and excellently set up[. I visited for the first time yeasterday and barely saw my 3 year ld for 4 hours, as he was busy on the piano, with playdoh, the bouncy castle, the dolls, the dressing up, and the 20 foot square car mat.

as I say, lunch is bsic, but you can have an enormous ham sandwich with generous side salad for £1.30. Well worth it.
