Need to book a restaurant Dundee or St Andrews for family get-together this weekend. 7 adults and 6 young kids...looking for something family friendly maybe even a softplay/playarea for kiddies. Anyone help?

Ah Dundee - my home town! (live in England now though). St Andrews .

Anyhoo - There is a review of the Marmalade Pot here if you scroll down. It is right beside the airport so you can't miss it, before you turn up towards The Invercarse Hotel/Botanic Gardens.

There are no real family friendly restaurants in St. Andrews probably because it caters more for the golfers than young children tbh. The only place I can think of is Littlejohns which is now known as LJ's which is on Market Place (but no soft play area). They do have a lovely Pizza Express though or an Indian restaurant called the Jahangir which is nice.

HTH

the marmalade pot is ok for soft play but the food is shite

id go to Jimmy Chungs on Whitehall St

no soft play area but very family friendly

the waiter are daft on kids and spoil them

FiveGoldenFIMBOs · 05/12/2006 14:01

The food has been ok when we have been there and the review is quite decent as well.

santasaltire · 05/12/2006 14:04

I have to agree with NP, the food at the Marmaldae Pot is shite, and they charge you to play in the soft play area.
Jimmy Chungs is good, adn the other chinese play along by City Quay.

There aren't any restaurants in St Andrews with play areas. LJ's is ok, as is Victoria Cafe, which is on the main street. It's not a cafe as such, theyu have a bar, do proper meals etc. big squishy sofas that kind of thing.

nailpolish · 05/12/2006 14:04

yes its ok

if you wnat soft play i would go there

nailpolish · 05/12/2006 14:05

jimmy chungs have real live clown fish

FiveGoldenFIMBOs · 05/12/2006 14:10

I stand corrected. I don't think decent food/soft play works. Tis either one or the other.

hairycaterpillar · 06/12/2006 15:12

Dundee sounds like the place to go.

Weavers Mill by camperdown...anyone been there? Was suggested by friend but she doesnt have kids!

nailpolish - Clown fish my ds would love that (totally mad Nemo fan!).

nailpolish · 06/12/2006 15:16

never heard of weavers mill

ive heard good things about the Outside Inn near Camperdown

not been myself tho

Perigrine · 06/12/2006 15:17

The Birkhill Inn is also in Dundee, quite family friendly and has a bit of a softplay area.

nailpolish · 06/12/2006 15:17

the Gulistan indian restaurant in Broughty Ferry has free meals for under 12's every day except fri and sat and the food is BRILLIANT

the Buffet restaurant at the Quay in dundee is v good too and relaxed (ie family friendly)

Perigrine · 06/12/2006 15:22

Yeah Gulistan would be my choice thinking about it!

FiveGoldenFIMBOs · 06/12/2006 15:24

And you could take the children to the refurbished Castle Green Park before/afterwards - (my dc loved it there when we were up in Scotland at half-term).

nailpolish · 06/12/2006 15:26

that park is great isnt it fimbo

FiveGoldenFIMBOs · 06/12/2006 15:28

Yes it is fab, my ds was "greeting" when we had to leave.

nailpolish · 06/12/2006 15:34

nailpolish · 06/12/2006 15:36

There is another place in Dundee, my friend was on about it. You have to go along the kingsway to get to it, and then turn right at the Perth roundabout and its just on the left. Is it the swallow roundabout, can't remember, been up here for 4 years and still get names wrong.

PurpleFrog · 09/01/2007 16:55

I know its a bit late but the Weaver's Mill at the Camperdown Leisure Park is good. (It used to be called the Outside Inn. )The old 'hard' play area has now been replaced with a soft play area. The restaurant itself is fascinating for children - it is set up as an Olde World Village complete with trees and fairy lights. The food now tends more towards Pub Grub than it did before but is really cheap - they seem to do a 2 adults main courses for the price of one deal all the time. Another local place with a play area is the Brewer's Fayre at Monifeith 5 or 6 miles out of Dundee.
