Shorthaul holiday with 16mo

What should I be looking for resort wise? We would like to go on a sunny (package) holiday next September and DS will be 16mo. It will be our first holiday with DS so I'm not sure what I need to consider when searching for holidays. Anyone who has been abroad with a DC this age what tips do you have or is there anything you would avoid?
Thanks in advance!

The South of France will not be desperately hot in September. It will only be a short flight. I would hire a cottage in the area of Narbonne. There is a good hospital in Narbonne as well, in case of emergency.
It is an interesting area with Carcassonne not far away and swathes of white sand and plenty of Airports to choose from. Toulouse, Pepignan and Carcassonne.
I took my DCs loads of times. Try La Grasse, ( not far from Carcassonne. ) there are quite a few English families with Gites to rent out.

Loads of choice at that time of year - so lucky that you don't have to go in the school holidays when it's too scorching hot to go anywhere. Really most places should be nice around then - Portugal, Majorca, South of France, Spain. We did Sardinia and it was nice - but you'd need to go at the start of September.

Depends what you like when you go on holiday. If it's sea and sand then pick a beach resort or if you want something more sights related then france is good - we flew to Nice when DS was about 10 months - twas great he slept for 2 hrs at lunchtime so we enjoyed cheapy set lunches at nice restaurants.

An apartment or aparthotel is a good idea if you don't want to sleep in the same room as your DS, so even if you just want flight, transfers and place to stay you may be well advised to book these separately as if you book a package the costs tend to rack up if you don't want to share a bedroom.

This company www.totstotravel.co.uk/ might giv eyou some ideas.

I live in Carvoeiro in the Algarve, small resort, lots of self catering accommodation, small sandy beach, lots of choice of restaurants, and September is a great time to visit. Happy to answer any questions

What sort of holidays do you normally like? We just slotted DD into our normal travel style (which a lot of people considered adventurous) and she was great.

Thank you for your replies. I love France, we went every year as kids, so will definitely be looking at La Grasse.

Rookie we are very beachy people but like walking and exploring a bit too. The sun does DP's skin the world of good so he tends to sunbathe while I burn read the kindle. Or that's what we did before DS!! I'm envisaging us taking it in turns to entertain DS while the other has a bit of a rest and then doing some exploring all together. Just not sure how realistic that is, if it's not realistic I will focus the search on more activities for DS.

Costa great, I have never been to Portugal but have heard great things. Is it very warm in early September?

Salty was there anything extra that you found you had to consider when planning hols with your DD? I just don't want to miss anything I might not have thought about!

In that case I'd recommend doing your walking and exploring holidays now before your DS is too old to complain Grin.
At that age, they'll still accept being dragged around a vinyard or a perfume making factory as a good day out. I'd make sure you had a comfortable base to go back to.

I think may, June and September are the best months to visit, the weather is usually lovely but not as hot as July and August, and it's a bit quieter and calmer too
