Flight with baby and child - one or two stops?

If you have flown long-haul with a baby and a child (ours is five), would you recommend one or two stops?
Or indeed should I try to find a direct flight (would mean a five hour drive in the UK to a better airport).

Also, any recommendations for where to look for cheap flights/anyone recommend an agent?
Thanks!

Shortest door to door option.
Personally, I wouldn't do 2 stop overs. Carrying all the paraphernalia that comes with small children round more airports doesn't appeal.

Consider getting a sling for baby in case you don't get a bulkhead seat. Mine slept most of the way back from Hong Kong in a sling.

What dates are you after?

Found these, if the info carry's over for end of next month

DisnaeMatter · 08/10/2015 10:39

DD, thanks, I have a sling (or four).

Looking to leave 6th Nov, return 22nd.

Google flights seem to say if you could come back on the Monday, its much cheaper.
They have Edinburgh to Orlando flights with Lufthansa and BA on your dates.

Thank you - direct? I'm not finding that.

If you are using skyscanner, just above the green search button there is a box you tick if you are looking for direct flights.

You can also go on the BA and Virgin websites and just type in what you are looking for.

I'm not able to look into it in more detail right now. But arr there other airports in Florida that you could fly into?
Tampa or Miami maybe?

DisnaeMatter · 08/10/2015 11:41

Thanks, Sansoora.

gin, we are doing the Disney thing - so that is MCO (Orlando), right? I don't really want to be factoring in a long drive the other end - would rather drive in the UK if we have to.

Nope, one change.

Manchester and Gatwick have been mentioned as only direct flights.
Those flights were 12 hrs in one stopover each way.

DisnaeMatter · 08/10/2015 12:09

Thanks, have found a flight from Manchester, I think we'd be better off with the five hour drive which neither of us really mind, and no stops. It's £2000 for all four of us - does this sound reasonable?

Yes, that sounds reasonable in terms of cost.

Is that flight from Manchester direct to Orlando?.

(would not fly into Miami unless you really had to, you could easily end up walking close to a mile at the other end in order to arrive in one of their immigration halls!. The only airline that flies direct into Tampa from their Gatwick base is BA).

Sansoora · 08/10/2015 15:48

You're really adding hours on to your journey with the drive to manchester. If you did the flight from Glasgow to Gatwick you would be cutting down your travel time by a good 4 or 5 hours.

DisnaeMatter · 08/10/2015 17:38

Thank you all. We've gone for the Manchester flights - direct, 9 and a half hours there, less back. I know it's a chore of a drive either side, but it feels doable. Anyway, it's booked now!
Now to sort the rest of the trip.
Thanks all for your advice.

Can you stay at one of the airport hotels and park your car there for the duration?

Enjoy your holiday

DisnaeMatter · 09/10/2015 10:31

I haven't looked yet, but yes, probably.

Thank you very much! :) Long overdue!
