what should I pack for Dubai?

I'm going to Dubai on thursday to meet DH (who has just gone to Abu Dhabi for work) for a 5 day break without the child .

Any ideas please on what sort of things I should pack? Will it be 'shorts and bikini tops' weather? Is ti dressy in the evenings?

Any tips gratefully received.

TIA

Yes and Yes - You'll definaitly get wear out of a bikini during the day and the evenings whilst not overly formal - I would imagine that you'll be dining in Hotel resturants and therefore smart casual is de riguer.

Bit dressy in evenings but pack very little-it's hot!
HAve a fab time!

Oh - It's all air conditioned too, so don't think short sleeves/straps will be adequate in the evening bring a shawl or wrap.

"without the child" sounded awful .
I meant to say "without the children"
In plural it somehow doesn't sound anywhere near as bad.

If we were shopping during the day what would be suitable clothing then? I'm assuming it's a tad different to the shopping experience I had in Cala Millor in the summer.

Sorry for all the questions, I seem to have lost the ability to make a decision which is most unlike me. I know I don't need to pack yet but I just need to freshen up what summer stuff I need as it's been pushed to the back of the wardrobe these last few months.

definately take something that covers your shoulders when out in the evening .It's ok whilst in the restaurant but not really out in public .
I'm not referring to hotels but shopping mall etc, where there will be locals.

Oh yes-I ended up buying a cashmere hoodie (not quite as bad as it sounds!) as the air con was so strong in the eves.

As for shopping-only thing i bought was the hoodie-everythign else was a bit to gold and garish fro me-bet you will have a fab time though.

Wear the same as here shopping but not too skimpy,ie t-shirt instead of spaghetti straps.

During The day I wore summer skirt (knee length) and T-shirty top - The locals are fine and not as intimidating as some may think, meaning there's no need to cover up head to food - basically shopping you should wear what you might wear to go to Bluewater shopping mall in the summer - all the shops are in malls and air conditioned to the max so you'd be cold in anything less. If you go to the souks in the cities and there you be in the heat but this time of the year you shopuld manage with skirt and top

thanks very much everyone.
I've got mixed emotions about going because of leaving the children and DH got really upset when he took DS to school this morning because he wont see him for 12 days. He actually admitted to me that he regrets suggesting I joined him at the end of the conference - he wishes now that he was coming straight home
He goes away on business quite a bit but the longest has been about 6 days so this will be double that.
Still, cant be changed now without us losing a lot of money so we'll just have to make the best of it huh?
