Hi, we (dh, me and 3 dcs 10,7 & 3), my disabled Mum, sister and her 2 grown up kids need a suggestion of somewhere to holiday to meet my other sister who lives in the Canadian Rockies. We are so far considering France or Spain as these are relatively easy for us all to get to but I really would like to consider somewhere more interesting. I will be 40 and one sister will be 50 so it's a celebration too. A villa is more suitable than a centre, given the range of abilities and ages.
Anything considered.....

More interesting what?

Nederland's or Germany or somewhere hotter? Which time if year?

bramblina · 23/09/2015 22:31

More exciting, though not disneyland. Likely school hols, easter or next summer.

Cruise to Alaska
Barbados
Mexico
Captiva island (off florida). My friend went here with her large extended family and had a great time

What kind of thing are you looking for?

bramblina · 23/09/2015 22:42

No idea! We just want a swimming pool and a bit of culture, Mum wants wine, 1 sister wants shopping and the other wants time with us all, niece and nephew probably just want to eat & drink. :-)

How about Hawaii?

bramblina · 23/09/2015 23:02

I suppose I should consider, but a shorter flight or at least more direct (from the scottish highlands....) is more idea for my Mum and the wee one....

How about Sicily? Great climate, culture, antiquities, beaches and scenery.

bramblina · 23/09/2015 23:08

I was thinking of a more direct flight from Canada?

Iceland!
So much to see, similar travel times for each party.

bramblina · 23/09/2015 23:20

Oooh! Good for a 3 year old?

hmm... I read the bit about 40 and 50yo!
I think it would be fun for your other DC... not sure about a 3yo. Depends on the 3yo tbh.

mrsmortis · 24/09/2015 09:46

Bermuda! It's not cheap but a brilliant place to visit (for a short visit anyway)

Artandco · 24/09/2015 09:53

Iceland is a great idea. We went twice last year with at the time 4 and 3 year olds. Once in winter, once in summer. They loved it.
In winter we did the whole skiing, sledging, spas
In summer we went canoeing, boat trips to see wildlife, thermal spas, shopping, swimming and snorkelling ( dh and I diving), bit of sightseeing.

I would say you def need to hire cars though in Iceland unless you really just stay in the capital and don't leave

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 24/09/2015 09:55

I thought Iceland too Smile

tribpot · 24/09/2015 10:04

I was going to say Iceland too - Icelandair fly out of Glasgow and Aberdeen (and a host of Canadian airports too).

nmg85 · 24/09/2015 10:05

Iceland is the obvious choice with flights direct from both countries. Wine is quite expensive though if that is a major factor :-). Could easily find something for everyone to enjoy but yes hiring a car is the best way to travel is leaving Reykjavik.

OldBeanbagz · 25/09/2015 14:08

You can buy duty free on the way into the country at Reykjavik airport. The locals were filling up trolleys full of beer when we arrived there!

SHopping is pretty expensive in Iceland though you can claim a tax refund on items over a certain value.

nmg85 · 25/09/2015 14:39

Yes it is the only country I ever bought duty free entering although we stuck to beer as was cheaper :-)
