Has anyone claimed for damaged baggage?
I am supposed to claim from both the airline and the insurer or what?
Our insurance has a 50 quid excess

Did you report it at the airport when you picked it up ? To claim from the airline I think you have to have reported it and have some kind of report form. Prob your own insurers will also ask for a report from the airport??? don't really know for certain.

2 of my suitcases were damaged on return last month, reported it to airline who made a report and when I asked what now they said claim off hol ins. and they would claim off airline, respectively. HTH

Dh got baggage damaged by BA handlers , reported it at the time , got damage report , phoned BA on his return to this country and they sent new suitacses. Apparently they have an account with Antler Luggage - what a surprise !

Try the Airline first .

Thanks, we have already reported it to the airline
Will try them first then the insurers

I've heard that it's goodwill on the part of the airline for damaged luggage - once saw a notice saying that suitcases are there to protect the contents so if they're damaged you may not be able to make a claim if the contents are ok.

Not too sure how it works with loose items though. I'd probably contact both parties - you can always pose the question & then contact them again later if necessary.

DHs suitcase was damaged when he came back from his last business trip to the US. He noticed when he got it off the carousel and pointed it out to a Delta Airlines official. He immediately produced a brand spanking new suitcase for him!

Who did you fly with? Ryanair and Easyjet won't be held liable for damage to car seats in transit, but they do make you aware of this on check in.

Check what the airline's policy is. Our corporate travel agents tell us not to bother with some airlines over lost baggage as they only cover a paltry amount of loss. If you claim from the airline, you're not strictly speaking, supposed to claim from the insurance as well.

If airline are willing to replace then great, but I suspect you'll get further with your insurance company.

Ah, now they might be more helpful. I would phone Cust Services and see what they offer you.
