Holiday Ideas needed Summer 2016 - Cape Cod?

This year we did AI in Mexico, last year it was villa in Florida + Disney. Enjoyed both in their own way but looking to do something different next year......

We'd like somewhere with a combination of relaxation and stuff to see and do (love nature, beaches etc as well as some sight seeing). Our kids are 12 & 10. We're not massively into theme parks and don't want to spend 2 weeks sitting around a pool either, but a few days of that would be great. The issue we found the last 2 years was the extreme heat, making days out very uncomfortable. Therefore, we're looking for good weather but not unbearably hot! New England/Cape Cod area looks like it may fit the bill. Thinking perhaps renting a cottage/cabin for a week and combining with a few days in Boston and also even New York if budget allows (I realise NY will be very hot though). I don't drive and DH doesn't want to do loads of driving, although we would definitely hire a car.

Have had a brief look and it seems holiday home rentals in Cape Cod are much higher than Florida, unless I'm looking in the wrong places!

Would be grateful for any advice and suggestions of other locations too. Half tempted to stay in UK as LOVE Devon/Cornwall but weather too iffy to risk for our main holiday. For various reasons must be in UK school summer hols.

Thank you in advance Smile

Accommodation in Orlando is very cheap. You're unlikely to find hose prices in Cape Cod. However flights to Boston and New York should be cheaper than to Florida so you may see some compensation there.

We really liked Cape Cod and would definitely return.

We spent 4 nights in NYC, hired a car and drove to Cape Cod for a week, and then drove to Boston for 3 nights. It was fantastic and a great mix of city/busy and beach/relaxing.

NYC really wasn't overly hot tbh. We went in school summer holidays. It was hot but nothing like Florida heat.

Fab Hula baby. That's the itinerary I was thinking of! Where did you stay in Cape Cod, as well as the cities?

Thx.

I'm watching with interest.

FWIW - we are considering Vancouver.

I've been to Vancouver, years ago pre kids. It's a nice city, not masses to do but a good starting point for the rockies.

Just found this place......

Certainly like the prices! Wondering if a park like this might actually be better for the kids, as opposed to a stand alone house.

Any thoughts? Are there many places around like this?

Before kids we stayed in a cottage here

Iirr it was a villa:house near St Johns Pond or something similar.

In NYC we stayed in a central hotel, Boston was walking distance but a little further out.

Will see if I can find details when I get my laptop out.

We did Boston & Cape Cod a couple of summers ago & loved both. It was hot but ok. In Boston we stayed in an old 'brownstone' here which was very good & I'd recommend.

(Went to Vancouver last summer - combined with a trip to the Okanagan region and an Alaskan cruise - and loved there too!)

We did 2 weeks starting in Boston, 4 nights on Cape Cod then a couple of nights in Connecticut and Rhode Island on way to NYC. Drove but distances aren't too bad. It was hot - 30c all the time but not too bad.

Accommodation on the Cape expensive but we stayed at Cove Bluffs Inn in a kind of wooden shed with 2 bedrooms. Not luxury but fine and fun! Close to the national seashore beaches which are lovely. We also had a night in Provincetown to Whale watch.

Have also done 3 centre hols with Vancouver a couple of times. We like Vancouver then ferry to Vancouver Island then up to Whistler which is fun in summer with mountain hiking, canoes and swimming in lakes.

2 adults and DD now just 15. First went to Vancouver when she was 8 - these sorts of hols perfect for kids the age of yourself imho.

Have fun planning!
