Salou in Spain? Has Portaventura on your doorstep, long beach etc ( we camped there) and a direct train to Barcelona which has loads to keep any Teen happy, including the football stadium which you can visit for a tour and or a match?
Stay on a campsite ( air conditioned mobile home) and he can play footie with all the other teens too?

Do you want a beach holiday? Marseille?
Or if you are not bothered about the beach, Milan has San Siro, plus shopping and nightlife and Gardaland is a short drive away.

am interested in Marseille, whats there for teenage boys then?

Well I'm not really an expert on teenagers I was suggesting Marseille due to the football team. But it's a big city with shops, cafes, museums (there's a planetarium I think) and some nice parks and beaches.
I spent a lovely summer in Montpellier down the coast when I was a teen 100s of years ago and had a great time.... pretty much just went to the beach everyday.

sounds really nice, would it be very expensive?

I think it should be doable on your budget. Budget airlines fly there, or you could go direct on the Eurostar, or even get a cheap ferry ticket and do a road trip. Smile

As a city I don't think it's especially expensive - nowhere near Paris levels and not as pricey as other places in the south of France.

I am so glad my DDs did pursue their hobbies on holidays with like minded teenagers. On their own. Independence and brilliant preparation for university! I never fancied tagging along. Barelona would be good for a visit.

France in June next year!!!

Perfect time to go as France is hosting Euro 2016. Although if you book after the 12th December and want flights to anywhere near where England potentially are playing, it will be expensive.

I would avoid Marseille - bloody dump and proper rough. Montpellier is nicer and Avignon is stunning.

You will find that between 10th June and 10th July, accommodation will be at a premium, due to the Euro's, but to be fair, the atmosphere will be great.

In the south, the host Cities where matches are being played are Toulouse, Marseille and Nice. They will have fans parks where matches are shown and there's always lots going on in between for a football mad youngster. I would avoid the fans park in Marseille though - we got tear gassed by the police last time we were there and chased round the City by the locals intent on killing us. It's not a pleasant place when there's football on.

Go and have a look on the UEFA site for dates and venues of games. The draw is not until the 12th December, before you ask where England are playing lol. (You won't get tickets either unless you are current members of the England travel club) but you could always buy from touts if he wants to go to a game. Approx £200 a ticket last time I was there.

To be fair, the way England play, we could be coming home before you even get to France.

Duinrell in Holland. You can either camp or stay in a static caravan. Lots of companies do holidays there. A big plus for teens is that there is a theme park next to it, which is free to use.

It's neat Amsterdam, the Ajax stadium, sandy beaches etc. it's a good place to go.

European Football = term time at school.

I don't think I have ever been to a city I could dismiss as a "dump", certainly not a major European city. Maybe it's just me though, as Ive heard other cities I love (Milan, Naples, Manchester) described as dumps too.
Most cities have rough parts but I'd be very comfortable taking my toddler to Marseille. I'm hard tho, me Grin
Never actually been to watch football in France, so don't know about that.
