Any recommendations for a mid town hotel in New York?

We are going in s couple of weeks. 2 adults and 2 children. I have been to Ned York s few times with DH but this is the first time with the kids so want somewhere where I feel comfortable taking the kids. So no swanky boutique hotels!

I and stayed at The muse before off Times Square which was good. No interconnecting rooms though.

Has anyone got any recommendations for reasonably priced mix town hotels of ones that are great with kids?

Thanks in advance. X

Location wise I would recommend the Hilton Midtown. It's near the Rockefeller centre and only a few blocks from Central Park. I spent a few nights there earlier in the year and it was a great base. Easy to get to most places but not quite as hectic as around Times Square.

With children being near to Central Park would be a huge bonus. I was there without DDs which was a shame as I know they would have loved the many play areas and zoo.

The hotel is pretty generic (and huge) but that may have the advantage in that noisy children won't be noticed.

Went to NY 10 years ago with dh & 2 kids on a budget so we stayed in a Howard Johnson.
It was a very basic hotel but was just around the corner from Maddison square gardens so we didn't spend much time there but it suited us-breakfast was brilliant!

Thank you for these. Hadn't considered Central Park so that's a good tip! Will check them out.

The Ameritainia on 53rd Street is good. I got a great deal on Jetsetter, $550 for five nights which included taxes.

Have a look at BA flight and hotel deals. They give you the trip advisor rating and the location of the hotel. They have lots of "standard" hotels such as Hilton Inns in the mid town/Central Park area. Personally I think other areas such as TriBeCa and Soho are more friendly. Lots of hotels don't include breakfast so you need to be near a good choice of breakfast outlets to keep expenditure down. Or go for one with breakfast included. Prices really depend on when you go! Bargains are not to be had all year round! There are places that have suites which might be of interest. We had a suite at the Michaelangelo Hotel in NY with a sitting room that converted a settee into a bed at night. It is a pleasant hotel and well located. Highly recommended.

We have stayed at The Westin just off Times Square and had inter connecting rooms. The rooms were large and had the most comfortable beds that I have ever slept in! We didn't have breakfast included but we found a great diner a block away which was very cheap and gave us a really American start to our days there!

Thank you. I'll have a look at these suggestions as well. I'm getting excited!

This Affinia comes recommended and the NYMA round the corner gets good reviews as well. Both in a really good location.

We stayed in. NYMA last year with 2 children. GREAT hotel, perfect location.

The Hyatt Times Square. Big, modern rooms, brilliant location and amazing staff. It was refurbished a year ago and is immaculate. We took our DC age 9 and 6, and they were so welcomed by the staff.
We booked it with BA when buying the flights but it was very well priced.

Help needed: Moving from New York to London

I will be moving in February 2016 to London, My son then will 2.5 years old. My husband and I will be working in Canary Wharf. Please suggest good neighborhoods around Canary Wharf with good pre school options. How expensive are the private schools? Do you think private schools are better? What are my options for my 2.5 years old? We will be renting, also suggest some nice and safe neighborhood.

Thank you everyone for helping in advance. I am very excited as well as nervous and I am glad I found this powerful group!

Hi bm2084

I would use the report button and request MN to move your post to their Moving Overseas part of their site. You should get more replies that way too as this is a general travel advice section.

TheHouseofMirth · 07/10/2015 11:07

Actually bm2084 is moving from overseas so maybe reposting in Chat would be best?
